Up until Sonnen's fight with Marquardt, he was generally regarded as a boring blanket. He hardly had any fans in the WEC, no one really cared when he had a short win streak in the UFC. He had a good fight with Marquardt and Silva, but I think it's more that the other guys in the fight made it a good fight when they were clearly losing.
I like watching Edgar fight, but I think it has more to do with him not being a finisher then him being boring or a wrestler. He had a few awesome fights, but still fans want to see the big finish. He did a great job picking Sherk apart like BJ Penn did, but it was really the flying knee by Penn that made it a great fight, while there wasn't anything too memorable about Edgar's fight with Sherk.

just to show how little fans he had about a year or so ago i bought a chael sonnen autographed picture framed for $2.50 cents on ebay haha.

I'll be the first person in a talk shit about Tim Sylvia contest, but some of the chatter is borderline fighter bashing so you might want to pick and choose your words lightly. S
Some wrestlers are very entertaining, and some are not. I'm not a big fan of the "Jesus I'm tired, so I'm gonna hug your leg while I'm bent over for 5 minutes pretending to go for a single leg takedown" move. The guys that do that should just find another sport because it's just plain shit. It's like they are trying to uproot a tree with their bare hands.
I think Edgar has been more than just a 1 dementional wrestler as of late, and it seems to be working in his favor. Not only did he upsetand outstrike, arguably, one of the best strikers on the planet... he did it twice.
Maynard was a lot more appealing coming out of the ultimate fighter than what he has built himself into.
Chael talks a lot of shit and wins grueling fights. He should for all intensive purposes, steroids ignored, have won the belt that night. I mean he was freakin asking for that triangle for 3 rounds.... You just don't sit in the guard of a blackbelt for 5 rounds without them at least TRYING to take your [head/arm/face] something home with them.
I don't really find Bader boring at all. He tries to strike, and does it well. He has more of an imposing wrestling style too, like more slam oriented. He drives through you, almost viciously.
When it comes to Ground and Pound, anyone can have "vicious" ground and pound. The real difference in GnP shows up when the person on the bottom is good at avoiding punishment. Otherwise it's body body head, and hell-bows.(there should be knees and kicks but I won't bitch about shitty rules that shouldnt exist right now) A
ny MMA fighter who hasn't trained how to keep a guy down while beating his face into a flat iron steak needs to switch professions now, because even if you don't plan on the situation, it will come up in a fight one time or another.

Meh. Fighters who look to score points are different from fighters who look to finish. I don't really care if it's pecking and running or laying and praying. It doesn't make them boring, but it's different from someone who is willing to take risks in order to finish.
Philosophically, I actually don't see any difference between Edgar and Sonnen.

I still do not get why people get upset at Gray, Chael, and Fitch. Get pissed off at their opponents for not training to defend takedowns and wrestling. Its bullshit. If a figthter does something effective, then why should HE change HIS game? For example, a fighter has a nasty Right hook and you're going to be fighting him in 3 months. Do you work on head movement so that you can try and avoid it? Or do you just say "Fuck it. I'm going to work on wrestling only." It's stupid to go into a Mixed Martial Arts fight not prepared for all aspects of the fight. As GSP said; "If you want to watch kickboxing, then go watch a kickboxing fight."
Even if Gray or Fitch throw only 3 punches on the top, they still made somebody their bitch by not being transitioned off of them.
I'm just sayin'...

I'm just sayin'... | In this age of MMA, every top fighter has specialized training camps. No matter how much someone trains for Chael Sonnen, there is only 1 Chael Sonnen. He is one of the top wrestlers in the world; training for him doesn't mean you will be as good as him.
Guys like Fitch, Sonnen, and Maynard, are among the best wrestlers out there. Its not like they were washed up and just came to MMA because they didn't make it in wrestling.
When it comes down to it, fighters are entertainers. If you have guys like Maynard and Fitch who are generally loathed by fans, they are not going to make the same kind of money as people who put on more entertaining fights. However, I think everyone realizes that winning comes first.
