Without reading anyone elses responses....

1. Rua has a total of ZERO title defenses.
2. Rua has NOT cleaned out his division.
3. Rua looked HORRIBLE his first two fights in the UFC.

Because Silva will not compete for the lhw title due to Machida not to mention he has already gone on record and stated that he is staying at mw.

In other words the only super fight he is getting is if someone comes to his division.

Rua is stoll top 5 P4P and would take out anyone in the LHW division. I agree with both of you to an extent but I agree people are shitting on GSP for not moving up but I believe GSP still has business to take care of with Shields and Fitch, and Anderson really doesn't at his weight.

I'm pretty sure both would sell out easily so that point's null and void. The PPV #'s would probably be higher with GSP, however.

I personally think there should be WAY more hype to get this fight set up (aside from Ed Soares' guaranteed BS for fear of losing 2 champions to RUA).

It has ALL of the successful story lines:

Champ vs. Champ
Brazil vs. Brazil
Chute Boxe vs. Chute Boxe (Early)
Chute Boxe vs. Black House
Revenge for Training partner

The list goes on and on and I'm SURE that if Anderson had shown any interest at all the hype train would already be running.

Stylistically I actually like Shogun vs Anderson better than GSP vs Silva.

I guess the novelty of Silva vs GSP is that it's top p4p fighters going head to head, both of whom are on incredible win-steaks. They are close enough in weight where it's possible. This chance doesn't happen all that often.

I don't think so, St. Pierre comes into his fights at 190 at tops I believe. Silva is a pretty huge dude, if anything he's far closer to Rua's size than St. Pierre's. I would like to see Rashad fight Silva if Rashad wins the belt. I don't care if Silva fights Rua but man I want to see some fights against good LHW guys not Irvin and Forrest.

Shogun vs. Silva is my number 1 dream fight, but a lot of good points were made as to why GSP/Silva is talked about more. I just think that GSP/Silva would be one boring ass fight. The more dangerous the opponent, the more cautious GSP fights. I see GSP winning that fight, but not much happening, just GSP taking him down and controlling him the entire time. GSP would definitely be Anderson's kryptonite. Shogun/Silva on paper is probably the biggest and best stand up war ever.

Yeah but those are all just reasons why Rua shouldn't be leaving the LHW division to fight the champion at HW.

...which would be impracticle anyways because of the massive weight differential in the HW division.

i like this thread. i much rather see anderson silva face shogun and gsp/penn III (assuming penn beats fitch and gsp beats shields). then if gsp and anderson are successful in those superfights...it'd only make their superfight that much more special. plus the first 2 superfights are more likely to happen anyway.
