This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Knowing the context of a fight in terms of its greater overall meaning adds a whole other dimension to the fan experience, as far as I'm concerned.
That fight is a great example, because despite the fact that it was a somewhat lackluster fight, it was still very significant in its meaning, and therefore the outcome was of great concern to me. Even when UFC fight in and of themselves aren't as exciting as I'd hope, I'm still interested on another level.
Strikeforce DOES put on many good fights, and have a solid stable of fighters. When things come together for them they can have an awesome night of fights, as was shown recently with the Henderson vs Babalu card. However, there's so much more pressure for their fights to be intrinsically valuable because they lack the extrinsic value that the UFC is able to create with its forward-thinking matchmaking.
