If anyone thinks Dana White is the problem, you are fucking mental.

Name me 5 people who have advanced the sport more from a media standpoint and a global standpoint?

freak show fights.
the decisions(whether its bc of points or judging)
ignorance of the public.
lay n prey to an extent, as in actually doing nothing as opposed to fighting on top
gus johnson.
tapout shirts.

too many ppvs, if there were more free events where good fighters could be exposed and become more popular to casual fans then those fighters will draw bigger numbers when they are on a ppv card. right now there aren't many big draws.

also random people saying oh im gonna fight ufc! like dave bautista, jose canseco, marius pudginowski or however you say it. i guess that is kind of under the category of freak show fights.

and if you say dana is hurting the sport your fucking insane! he has made the sport so much bigger and has a huge impact on its growth. haters gonna hate but you gotta respect what hes done.

6. Unwillingness to copromote. Having champions fight champions of other organizations would be great for the fans and prevent stale undeserved rematches. Having a few great fighters in a handful of organizions that will probably never fight each other is disappointing.

5. Obviously drug abuse by fighters like the same in every sport.

4. Fighter pay in top organizations like Strikeforce, UFC and Bellator. Smaller promotions obviously don't make near the same profit margin as the top ones and cannot afford to pay out more.

1. Horridly run athletic commissions or the lack of them. Using commissions that are focused on boxing rather than MMA hurts the sport the most. Especially since the UFC is based mostly in Nevada while Strikeforce uses the CSAC more. Both are a fucking joke.

Shit unexperienced commissions. (most states still don't require promotions public their salaries, crappy referees having seniority over well respected one's and shitty judges with no experience)

Max one promotion PPV a month. I don't like that the UFC will sometime have 2 PPV events a month...make more free one's...12 PPVs a year is already 720 bucks a year on watching live PPV events...keep the free one's coming.

UFC ranking their own fighters publicly.

Apart from that I don't have many complaints. Every organization can't have a Dana White....if people want to pick and chose their opponents, I like that there are organizations that will allow these fighters...some in Strikeforce and some in Japan....and one I can think of in Bellator.

Commissions should have to allow certain fights to take place and should prevent others. Randy fighting Toney should have never been allowed by any competent commission....Mayhem Miller fighting Tim Stout (now 10-10 as a pro)....Lashley vs Wes Sims.....probably the worst Christine Cyborg Santos allowed to fight Jan "Cuddles" Finney.

I could care less about any sort of steroid complaints....as long as there is competition there will be people trying to get an unfair advantage. If anyone thinks there is something that can be done to fix it they are wrong. It will always be a problem in every major competitive sport. There are far more football players and baseball players that fail steroid tests compared to MMA fighters.

Another problem I have is that people still call MMA UFC or cage fighting....celebrities and people in the media do it a lot...and it irritates me....I think that hurts the sport in general.

I'd say the scoring system and judging might be hurting it but other than that its doing pretty well. I don't think anyone can put forth a reasonable argument that Dana White has somehow hurt the sport more than he has helped it. You may disagree with his language or some of his antics but the guy has done a ton to grow the sport.

I KNOW!!!!! Guys like chael fan who should be hoping for a playgirl issue with chael sonnen instead of watching mma. When they do watch mma, do it for the sport and not to watch a guy you have sexual fantasies about!!

I don't think brawl like Strikeforce brawl hurt MMA, there are brawls in any sport and to me its very interesting to watch... What hurts sport? Steroides , bad trash talker's who goes way over line and judges...

Dana is a huge problem. Hes become the face of MMA to the mainstream. And when he acts like an immature jackass, he makes his company, the fighters, and its fans all look stupid.
He tampers with the in ring product by making tacit threats that if they dont fight the style he prefers to watch they risk hurting their careers(despite results). Again, terrible for the "sport".
Most of the so-called advancement hes contributed to is for his company, the UFC brand, but not for mma. He craps on most anything not UFC after all, and tries to direct everything happening within the UFC like the fighters are cattle hes hearding.

To his credit he signed off on The Ultimate Fighter. Even thou its a direct ripoff of Tough Enough, it has been great helping younger fighters getting exposure and landing fight jobs, in the UFC and out.
Hes also kept Joe Rogan on commentary and hasnt censored him much. And Joe actually helps mma alot by explaining technique.
I'll give Dana credit for that and only that.

Blatant mismatch fights are what is hurting the sport the most. A brutal KTFO is a double edged sword for the sport. Sure, many fans like seeing a guy get finished. It's exciting, and doesn't leave any issues of judging. At the same time, it's more ammo for anyone looking to not all MMA in their state. Look at the last SF card with Daley and Lawler scoring those brutal KOs. How far were Smith and Lindland away from serious or long term damage? The sport cannot afford to have a serious/fatal injury in the higher levels. That story will get picked up and the media will run with, especially if they have footage of the fight. If that happens, the sport would be set back a good 5 years at least.
