It's a big fight for Story, and I hope he wins, but I would have thought that after throwing Alves a C-level-bone for his last fight they'd be willing to match him up with someone who at least is on the fringes of top 10. He should be fighting Swick, or Hardy, or Hughes, or Paulo Thiago.
This is the kind of thing that kills me. Sure, Joe Silva "is playing chess while the other orgs are playing checkers," but to be honest,Joe Silva sucks at [metaphorical] chess. He just doesn't suck as badly as Coker. He's the thinnest kid at fat camp.
rh | I think their setting up both fighters for the future in this fight. It becomes a win/win for the UFC. If either fighter wins I can see them being pushed into a contenders spot to fight for the next title shot, or at the very least main event a free show. The loser of Fitch/Penn could fight the winner here.

Story is awesome. But alves is still a little out of his league. Wouldve preferred Alves vs. Diego Sanchez. And Story vs. Paulo Thiago. Still nice match, hope its competitive & back and forth.

rh | Rick Story is better than you're giving him credit for. He's on his way up and beating Alves would put him on the map. I will agree that this isn't as good for Alves, but he's not been able to get past the top 2 guys and we all know how the rest of that division isn't exactly stable. I like Swick, but he's been out for some time and lost his last fight. Alves has already beaten Hughes in convincing fashion. Thiago and Hardy are coming off clear cut losses. Typically, winners fight winners and Story is coming off of a big win against Hendricks. I like the matchup.

Story is a game fighter, but he hasn't even broken the top 25 yet. He's got potential, and I'm sure he'll do well, but for right now, he's a C-level WW in terms of the UFC pecking order. Alves just beat a C-level WW, how many are they going to give him to maintain his status?
My point is that there are at least 10 other matchups between Story's level and Alves. I'm not a huge Alves fan, so I'm hoping he loses...if he does, he's entirely out of the top 10, in my opinion.

For me, it comes down to the dichotomy in that Story's a very intellgent fighter while Alves is a purely physical fighter, put them in a cage together and I think Story is smart enough to avoid the standup and has enough grappling to keep Alves on his backwhile working and arm from half while avoiding the sub long enough to get a UD.
I want to see Alves take this fight because he's the more entertaining fighter, but he's terribly incomplete and I don't believe he has the TDD to stay away from Story's inside legtrip and work some GNP and his jits isn't amazingly above Story's which is quite underrated. Story won't be able to sub Thiago either, but he can wear on him and has very underrated boxing, however he won't even try to strike. Endgame, I really don't like this matchup and would've preferred seeing Story take on your loser of Kampmann/Sanchez, winner of Stungun/Diaz, Winner of Lytle/Condit or Paulo Thiago to see if he's ready to swim in deeper waters, but Alves has the potential to really lay an egg on occassion and I don't think that's really a good thing for Story's stock in the long run.

This should be good to test Story and see what improvements Alves has made. I dont have a problem with it at all.
