| Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus Set for UFC 128 in New Jersey Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus Set for UFC 128 in New Jersey | MMAFrenzy.com Quote:
Lightweight contender Jim Miller will look to stay in the title hunt when the New Jersey native takes on WEC import Kamal Shalorus at UFC 128 on March 19 in Newark, Miller’s camp announced today.
Both fighters earned their most-recent wins earlier this month, as Miller (19-2) tapped undefeated prospect Charles Oliveira with the “Submission of the Night” at UFC 124 for his sixth-straight win, while Shalorus (7-0-2) remained unbeaten with split decision over Bart Palaszewski at WEC 53.
The UFC 128 fight card is headlined by light heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. former title-holder Rashad Evans and also includes Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland and Mirko Cro Cop vs. Brendan Schaub.

| personally i think that this match up is a not up to par, and i could only imagine how miller feels. this guy deserves the upper echelon of the lw division by now imo. he was even calling for it after his win.

Why did Miller sign this fight? He should be getting a fight to be the number 1 contender, and Shalorus is nowhere near deserving of that status. He (IMO) decisively lost to Varner who just got cut.

HUGE step down for Jim Miller. I guess he justs wants to keep fighting plus wants to fight in his hometown but damn.

I have a feeling Miller is going to break the record for "most wins before getting a title shot". He keeps getting offered ridiculous fights that doesn't help move him up the rankings. They could've easily matched him up with Florian or Sherk.

Risky fight for Miller...Shalorus is def the superior wrestler, his standup has been improving, esp his kicks, he got a hell of chin as shown in that Varner fight, cardio was an issue in the later rounds in his fight against Bart but I expect him not to make that mistake again.
I would say Miller is more technically sound, better BJJ game...but he could get dropped at any moment with one of Kamal's bombs. I expect both guys to come in with a set gameplan to outpoint the other
And as mentioned, Kamal is def a step down in competition for Miller at this point during his winning streak. If Kamal does get the win, I would say he is still 2-3 fights away from a title shot, depending on who he faces.

this is going to be a one sided ass clobbering. what the hell is this? miller is on the cusp of a title shotand they give him a guy who got a lucky draw against varner and then a less then stellar split decision?
well this is a stupid fight that'll probably end quickly but i am still very excited for this card. much more excited then i was for the last jersey card.

This is silly. Is silly the correct word? Is stupid more appropriate? I'm just gobsmacked right here. This is nearly as silly/stupid as Nick Diaz resigning with Strikefarce.
I mean JDS wanting to fight somebody in lieu of a Cain title fight is risky, but he's trying to build a name for himself as a main event draw and wants as much of a brutal highlight reel knockout montage as possible and of the possible fighters, none really pose too much of a threat compared to the publicity and ZUFFA love he'll probably get.
Shalorous is a solid fighter no doubt about it, but he's not a top fifteen, hell not even a top twentyfive LW at this juncture, while Miller just ran through Tibeu and Bronx and they're giving him a fighter whom very few mainstream UFC fans even know. This is bonkers.
For my money, Miller should've waited to see if Gomi/Guida ends with a flash KO and take on the winner of that, or winner of Dunham/Guillard or as mentioned above, Benson Henderson even makes more sense.
But for me, vs. Sots for a title shot probably makes the most sense, instead of wasting him in a bout vs. Siver that means very little for George and IMO, is a quality comainevent level fight that matters, instead of tossing them away against midcard fighters.
This is just a pointless bout that does nothing for Miller's namevalue or titlecontender status. And now, I'm kinda pissed off.
