My reasoning is this.... I feel Couture's career has been artificially prolonged mostly due to the ufc hype machine. wins over coleman, vera, james toney, gonzaga and sylvia (these are his wins going back 5 years) should have him fighting the likes of Matt Hamill, re-match with vera, heck even ortiz. Machida, yes coming off 2 losses, should be fighting thiago silva, jon jones.... I'm not going to play matchmaker but i think the point is made. Couture's aurora is palpable, but when you dissect his career over the last couple years I just don't see how he can be made to be a top contender.
And what I'm really afraid of is this..... Couture getting smashed. For real. I don't know....this fight obviously is used to build the hype around UFC in Toronto....again the ufc hype machine. But if couture wins, i'll go hide in a cave for awhile.

This fight could go anyway man n thats why im stoked for it and get to be there live, n just with couture having some wins and only wanting big fights or being done, machida wit a few loses it's a fight that has alot of marketability n i just cant wait.. But yes we are all entitled to our opinions and i respect yours sorry for the argument

I think the thing we've got to remember is Couture is somewhat of a dark horse when it comes to title shots. I mean he was 'retired' before he was offered a shot against Tim Sylvia, and we all know what happened there. Sure, the HW was much more shallow than the LHW division is now, but who knows, Couture could always work his way back up the ladder within a couple (or few) big wins. I really don't see title shots being the focus of his career right now though, I just think he wants some exciting match-ups against credible and talented opponents. He has nothing less to prove and I'm sure it's just super-competitive nature and attitude that is motivating him for these fights in the final year(s) of his career. Good luck to him.
WAR RANDY!

I wanted to see this fight a while ago but its lost some of its luster. I think Couture will probably catch a TKO in the first or second round. But you can never count Couture out of a fight.

Looks like Couture is going to retire with a loss.

Randy's last win against a legitimate opponent was Vera, imo, and he arguably lost that fight. Coleman and Toney are hardly comparable to most of the 205 div. I just don't see Randy keeping up with a much quicker Machida, nor deserving this fight.
It will sell tickets though.

Man seriously Randy? Again for the record, he is one of my favorite fighters of all time but this is going to last all of two minutes in the first round. If the BS loss to Rampage wasn't enough motivation for Lyoto, this will probably be the fight that drives confidence back to the dragon. Randy its not too late to retire...

It will sell tickets though. | I agree man. I mean Randy is a skilled guy and if he managed to close the distance on Lyoto then we all know that Randy is a dangerous guy (clinch/dirty boxing/in top position). As I said in my previous post, I just think Randy is testing himself, and why not, he has nothing left to prove.
Good post though man!
