| ESPN says Overeem vs. Werdum will be for the title Quote: |
"Beginning with Overeem's quarterfinal bout against Werdum, each Strikeforce title fight throughout the tournament will be a five-round contest. All other bouts are relegated to three rounds. Should Overeem win out, he'll have a strong case to be considered the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA. The same could be said for Emelianenko or Werdum."

| ESPN, you've just pissed off Dana White. You are now banned from covering the UFC.

Dana should try and sign AO or Werdum just to mess with SF's tourney. If it actually went through it would be very detrimental to the UFC. All the press around it already is pretty crazy.

so will every fight be for the title after this?
makes it a bit more interesting if the last guy standing is both the tournament winner and the strikeforce champion

I said this in the last thread about this, EVERY FIGHT that Overeem is in will be for the Title, hence the 5 rounds. So if Werdum beats AO, he's the title-holder and every fight with him will then also be 5 rounds. Only the fights with the HW Champion in them are 5 rounds, so whether it be AO or Werdum the 2nd fight will also be for the Championship and the Final will solidify who is the Heavyweight Champion.
Thats what I'm getting from all this and that makes the most sense. I'd be pissed if I had to beat someone at a later date just to get the title after I already beat them once in a tournament.

That sounds pretty f'ed up to me. Only the champion has to go 5 rounds while everyone else in the tourney gets to go for 3 rounds. 2 more rounds means more chance to suffer injury and/or be in a longer war that could seriously hurt your chances of coming out healthy.
This whole tournament with the HW champ in it is kind of retarded to me. It's almost as if SF is saying that the HW title is meaningless and the tournament champion will be the actuall HW champ. Shouldnt this tournament be for the number one contender to the title? It would have been better to have AO vs Werdum while the tourney takes place. The winner of the tourney could then take on the winner of AO/Werdum. But that probably makes too much sense for SF.

So yeah AO to start it off has 5 rds and everybody else is 3. What I dont like is they want to string this tournament out over the summer and thats what bothers me. Somebody is gonna get hurt or pull out, mark my words.

Whats better then having a GP to decide who the SF champion is? Screw a GP belt, let the true prize be the SF HW championship. Props to all these guys for stepping up and fighting each other.
