I am shocked by this. I thought the fight was real close. I thought Volkman fought like shit and did the bare minimum to win. He stalled nearly the whole fight.
McKee wanted to stand and trade in the first round...landed some nice jabs and a nice counter. Same in the third.
McKee tried for maybe 2 takedowns the entire fight.
At 40 years old, if McKee hadn't said a thing about being better than other 155ers or thinking he could beat GSP....if he hadn't said any of that shit, he would have never been invited to the UFC in the first place....they would have kept overlooking him for the rest of his fight career.
I thought the fight should have been a draw...or could have been a McKee win. The questionable round was a weak takedown by Volkman in the first. McKee had landed 3-4 nice shots...Volkman had one slapping leg kick and a takedown that lasted for at most 20 seconds....Volkman never attempted to strike McKee when he was down, never attempted a submission....McKee stood back up and tried to work his standup again....but because he got the useless takedown where nothing happened, the round went to him. Between rounds you could see the shots that McKee had landed on Volkman's face.
Volkman scored a takedown in the 2nd round after about a minute and a half of the fighters circling and McKee trying to close the distance and work his jab and counters then held McKee down...jumped on his back and tried the weakest RNC attempt I have ever seen in the UFC. If anyone wants to see how to properly stall in a fight...and still look busy....without ever striking your opponent, study Volkman.
I liked Volkman before the fight, but after I saw this fight I am really upset at what he did.
Volkman never tried to change arms...Volkman never struck McKee while he had him down....not once....and in the last like 40 seconds of the round, McKee finally scrambles and spins around and has finds himself in Volkmans guard...I would have to give it to Volkman, but I would have liked to see the ref stand them up or ask for action....McKee had decent defense, but Volkman never wanted to RNC McKee....he just wanted to stay on his back and do nothing....not even punch or heel kick...nothing
I am upset at both guys...Volkman more....I was hoping to see McKee fight again in the octagon....the oldest debut UFC fight.
McKees standup looked before...he didn't do what people complain he does....he didn't takedown and stay on top going nothing...Volkman did worse than what people complain McKee does.
