Marcus Davis Cut by the UFC by Nick Thomas on Jan 6, 2011 1:25 PM EST in UFC News
According to MMA Weekly: Marcus Davis has been released from the UFC following his loss to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 125 last weekend.
Davis’ manager Joe Cavallaro comments - "(Marcus Davis) is looking forward to getting back in there and working his way back to the UFC. ...He feels real comfortable at 155. He felt lighter on his feet, he moved better, he wants to stay at 155."
Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis (17-8)
Loss Jeremy Stephens - KO (Punch) UFC 125
Loss Nate Diaz - Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) UFC 118
Win Jonathan Goulet - TKO (Punches) UFC 113
Loss Ben Saunders - KO (Knees) UFC 106
Loss Dan Hardy - Decision (Split) UFC 99
| not surprised by this at all. He's been on the decline, and I think the age is starting to show in him. Certain fighters you can just see age creeping in, and I think with him that is reason.

his last fights were tough one's (aside from the goulet one lolz). i wish marcus the best.
he had stephens beat until that ko. and marcus had stephens badly hurt a couple of times, but really couldn't seem to capitalize on it. when marcus had stephens rocked that 1st time, i was screaming at the tv when he paused, and then went for the take down. total lack of killer instinct.

ya no surprise here. With the merger there is no room for these journymen vets on the decline. i wish him the best and hopefully he can regroup and make his way back but i won't hold my breath.

Real shame I have to admit, but I can't say I'm surprised. He was really working Stephens for the entire fight until and I thought he looked great at 155.

Hate to say it but I think it was Dan Hardy's trash talk that ended his career.

You would have to think that this is probably the end of the line for Marcus. He's now 37 and isn't going to go back to the smaller circuits to work his way back to the UFC. And with all the Fight of the Night Bonuses he got probably has a good chunk of change in the bank to where he can survive without having to fight. Plus he owns a gym so there's a good revenue stream right there.

Ummmmm, wasn't he pretty much owning Lil Heathin during their throwdown till the finish???
True, he's getting up there in age and isn't gonna win any titles or that type of thing, but he ALWAYS brings it and gives a great midcard performance.
Guys like Gonzaga, Jardine, Vera and now Davis are all solid, efficient gatekeeper level fighters who've become something of the "proving ground" for fighters and slowly but surely, that old guard is slowly being weeded out, in part I believe because they're getting to a point where they're costing more than they're producing, but I hate this cut especially because Davis has always brought his game and given his all and deserves better than this.
Bummed out about this.
