| Mark Hominick: Jose Aldo Hasn't Faced a Striker Like Me http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/01/1...riker-like-me/ Quote:
The news that Mark Hominick is one win away from a UFC featherweight title shot against Jose Aldo has been questioned by some MMA fans who wonder whether Hominick has really done enough to merit fighting for a belt.
But for his part, Hominick insists that he has exactly what it takes to beat Aldo, and that he's ready to throw things at Aldo in the cage that the champion has never seen before.
"Aldo has faced everybody -- he's faced top grapplers, top jiu jitsu guys, wrestlers," Hominick said on HDNet's Inside MMA. "But he hasn't faced a top elite striker like myself. I'm going to be in his face."
There's some truth to what Hominick is saying: All eight of Aldo's opponents in World Extreme Cagefighting came from more of a wrestling/grappling background than from a striking background, and all of them have more career wins by submission than by knockout or TKO.
And Hominick also has an experience edge over Aldo that some fans might be overlooking: Hominick has been fighting professionally for two more years than Aldo, he has eight more pro fights than Aldo, and his upcoming Fight for the Troops bout with George Roop will be his third UFC fight, while Aldo hasn't fought in the biggest show in MMA yet.
But I'm not really sold on the idea that Hominick is the best striker Aldo has faced. I think Urijah Faber, whom Aldo beat last year, is a more complete striker than Hominick, and I think Mike Brown, whom Aldo beat in 2009, is a harder puncher than Hominick. Aldo will be a huge favorite stepping into the Octagon with Hominick, and there's a good reason for that.
| Hominick will be a deadman walking.

The more I hear about Hominick getting Aldo next, the more I worry about Hominick overlooking Roop. I don't care if he was fighting Hillbilly Jim next, you never look past an opponent. Especially one with KO power.

Its very funny to me how everytime a contender says "He has never faced someone like me before" to a Champion and then almost everytime the Champion just destroys the contender in the fight.

Hominick is right about Aldo not having faced a striker as good as him before, but I don't think it will matter. Jose has such a complete skill set that he can dictate where the fight goes.
I'm interested in the matchup and believe it would be entertaining, but like others have said, you cannot dismiss Roop. He's clearly a fighter who is looking to improve and he's impressed me as of late. I wonder what kind of reach advantage he'll have.

Mark Hominick is a fool to think he is a better striker than Urijah Faber whom Jose Aldo faced a year ago. However, I admire the confidence and self-promoting with it being warranted. If he thinks he's a top notch striker, then lets see it. I dont think he should look past Roop because that usually proves fatal for the win category when you seem to not think your current opponent can handle you. Should be a good fight but I think Jose Aldo proves too much for him.

Out of all the FW contenders out there, I think Roop v. Aldo could be a really interesting fight. I would just like to see how Aldo would deal with Roop's range and size. I am sure he would win but Roop could give him trouble for a round or two.

Whoever Aldo faces will most likely be someone who will be a UFC highlight reel for him. He has like 2 fights top left at FW before he should test the waters of LW similar to what anderson silva does at LHW
