| Herschel Walker NFL Talk Doesn't Even Get Strikeforce in the Story Herschel Walker NFL Talk Doesn't Even Get Strikeforce in the Story - Bloody Elbow Quote:
Herschel Walker brings one huge asset to Strikeforce -- his ability to garner mainstream media attention. He hit a rich vein today by hinting he wanted to come back to the NFL:
Herschel Walker says he's thinking about making a football comeback. At age 48. After not playing for 13 years. Quote: |
"I want to be the George Foreman of football," Walker said during a conference call promoting a Mixed Martial Arts event in which he'll participate.
| Notice anything missing from that quote? Unfortunately for Herschel and Strikeforce the name of the promotion isn't even notable enough for the Sporting News to report.
[UPDATE] - Of course that's better than what the Dallas Morning News reported: (HT: BE reader nottheface) Quote: |
"I've told everyone that at 50 I might try football again to show people I can do that," Walker said on Monday during a conference call to promote his upcoming UFC fight. "I want to be the George Foreman of football, come back and do that one more time."
| Of course other major sports outlets that have dedicated MMA writers covered the event properly and named Strikeforce, most notably ESPNand SI. (HT BE reader Fitefan)
But it's more revealing that the non-MMA writers don't know UFC from MMA. | Quite telling isn't it. Coker....oh Coker.

I've said it before and I will say it again....Scott Coker does not know how to promote his brand or his fighters.
It's sad that talented fighters like Jacare, Lawler, Roger Gracie, Prangley arent getting their recognition and are being overshadowed by an aging athlete who has ONE career fight.

When Fedor fought Rogers the commercial was dramatic shots of Fedor in a crumbling warehouse...they didnt even mention Rogers name. Terrible marketing.
Hershel Walker will get another can with 5 or less fights under his belt so he doesn't lose. Coker thinks he is their lifeline to mainstream media...and he is to an extent, but he is not a mixed martial artist...I bet I could literally use a lunging jab and hard leg kicks to keep him at distance and punish the fuck out of him...Seriously, get this guy out of here!

Pathetic. Herschel was on the Apprentice so I know he knows about freaking branding. As for these media outlets... Just pathetic. I mean if the article was about a cancer foundation, would they print "herpes foundation"? I mean, their damn job is to print what they hear, it's not that hard!

This isn't a reflection of Coker or SF, it's terrible reporting.
MMA is still the bastard child of sports and SF is #2 even in that arena.
