The only real reason Zuffa even signed Jake is because hes litterally the only viable contender at 170 that GSP hasnt already beat.
If Jake bored us to death, but never got top 5or10 status, I dont think Dana would have ever signed him. He wouldnt sign a boring fighter if he was never gonna make it close to a title shot right. But he would sign a boring fighter if many people thought it was the only "threat" to a dominate champion.
As far as the trade goes, Id say SF got the better long-term deal. I could see Jake getting demolished by GSP, then dropping a fight, then having a bad showing and him getting the boot. I cant see the same thing happening with Hendo.
I would love if Hendo was in the UFC tho, so many more matchups for him there. Shogun/Machida/Rashad/Forres, Rematches with Franklin/Wandy/Anderson/Vitor. I mean cmon, any one of those fights have more appeal then Hendo/Fajao and Hendo/Babalu combined!
Stupid reason hes gone to , oh well they seem to be doing just fine without him and SF seems more then happy to have him.

It wasnt a trade. Shields would be in UFC right now even if Henderson never left.

another top tier opponent for gsp and one of the few TOP ww's out there not in the ufc was big. not sure if that will matter after gsp gets through him. hendo has a huge fan base and is one of the most exciting and accomplished fighters in the sport. yes he is getting older, but we've seen what he can do. he had a very bad back injury happen during fight week and also had a resulting horrible weight cut, thats why he looked so bad in that fight and gassed so quickly.

The reality, however, is this: Henderson is an aging, though still competitive veteran, who was never going to win a title in the UFC, at 185 or 205. He's exactly what Strikeforce needs right now, in that he's a big name who's good for a couple more years of perpetual title fights and a superfight or two. The UFC needed Shields, if only to be able to say that GSP has completely cleaned out the WW division. | I am willing to put money on Hendo(40) having a longer career at the top than Couture (47). Hendo hasn't lost a step at all, maybe even better than he was 5 years ago..
Hendo is much more marketable than Jake Shields, I am a big Shields fan but he is just 1 level above Jon Fitch on the excitement factor. Dan is a much a better fit for Strikeforce.
On a side note:
I'd love to see Hendo vs Shields again...but I have a feeling that Shields just may have the style to defeat Hendo ala Edgar/BJ.

I can't believe anyone would say Shields "wrecked" Hendo. Unbelievable.
Hendo left the UFC after a win. In the UFC, his only 2 losses were the 2 title fights: decision vs. Rampage and the sub vs. Anderson. So if the UFC (Dana) says Hendo "couldn't cut it in the UFC" that would be worse than any of their PPV hype jobs.
btw my vote would go to Strikeforce in this instance.

Shields-Young Fighter with a lot of upside
Hendo-Still puts asses in seats and PPV buys in the bank.
UFC got a young guy that may grow into that role and they can afford to be patient.
Strikeforce got a guy to pay the bills now, and boy do they need that.
to me its a Tossup..Both orgs and fighters got what they wanted.

Shields passed Henderson's guard like a butter knife does with butter. He did that for 4.5 rounds, not to mention Shields gained full mount on Henderson every round. Apart from the brief moment that it looked like Shields was out, Henderson didn't/couldn't do sh!t else for 4.5 rounds. And that in my view - wreckage. It's not like Henderson loss a close fight or split decission to Shields, lol. Quote:
