| Nate Marquardt Looking At Move To Welterweight
Original source with video: Nate Marquardt Leaning Towards Move to Welterweight Division -- MMA Fighting Nate Marquardt Looking At Move To Welterweight - FightLine.com Quote:
Perennial 185lbs. contender Nate Marquardt picked up his tenth win inside the UFC's middleweight division Saturday night by defeating Dan Miller over three rounds, but despite his success there, he recently told MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani that he is considering making a drop down to the welterweight division.
"(Michael) Bisping would be a great fight, I would take that any day," Marquardt said when asked by Helwani what his plan is for his next fight. "There's still a lot of fights at '85 that I want but one thing I talked to my coaches (about) before this fight--and a couple of my teammates, like Georges St. Pierre--we talked about me cutting down to 170, because I was walking around really light, basically at the same weight Georges walks around at. I think it's something that I'd like to try out if it's a good fit, then go for the title there."
| I think Nate would make a great addition to the welterweight divison. It's hilarious how apparently there's not that much fire and brimstone over Nate possibly moving down and challenging GSP for his title when Rashad is acting like the world is against him. If Nate actually drops down to WW, I will be very excited to see how he does.

He would never make the cut, he has too much muscle....also, if he did, he would be a shell of his former self.
Shell, not shill.

Hmmm..I would have to factor in that possibility of when fighters cut a lot of weight for the first time, they tend to gass out during their fight much quicker than normally. That is not always the case like for example, Diego Sanchez never had that problem at 155. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Nate vs Nate: If he drops to welterweight, I would like to see a fight between Mardquart and Diaz, Idk why though. It just seems like some sort of fantasy fight because we are used to watching Diaz at LW and Mardquart at MW.
What fight would be good for Mardquart at 170 to make his debut?

if nate lost some muscle he would make 170 no problem, 170 needs some new blood it seems the top 10 are always the same just switch spots a lot

He could make 170 without a problem IMO. I train at Almeida's who used to fight at 185 and now fights at 170, and I've seen Nate in person, and Almeida appears MUCH larger than Nate. I think he'd be fine, and should make the cut to 170.

And I agree about the cut as well. He just seems to big to make it, but WTF do I know? If he can make it good for him, but I have a hard time seeing him keeping his power and strength as a WW.
