| Yushin Okami Vows to Beat Anderson Silva and Become UFC Champion MMALinker: Yushin Okami Vows to Beat Anderson Silva and Become UFC Champion
by Nick Thomas on Mar 25, 2011 Quote:
"I want to fight Anderson, beat him, and I believe I’ll become a new star in the UFC. I’m concentrating and training for that fight now."
"(With Silva vs. GSP) there is the problem of weight…and GSP will go for the takedown. But the middleweight division is for the fighters who are there, and have been fighting there, so I don’t think there’s much point in that fight. Basically, I haven’t really thought about it because Anderson and I are top of the middleweight division, so it should be left to us."
"Anderson is the top of the middleweight division and I am coming for the belt. I promise you’ll see him fall and I’ll be the new champion. Thank you for your support!"

Okami has been patient and professional, never smacktalked to get his shot, IMO his time is now. A 10-2 UFC record is no shame at all. I think Okami can do it, he's seriously improved and can take Silva down and control him.
A WW champ who wants to jump the queue shot not automatically get a title shot here.

I wouldn't be too upset if Okami actually won. I like him.
But I see Anderson still holding on to the belt at the end of the night.

I am kinda bored with all-comers getting blown out of the park by Silva every time, a fresh face for the MW belt wouldn't exaclty ruin my day lol

I don't think Okami has much of a chance, his stand up is just too stiff and he's going to get lit up. I'll still be pulling for him though

His stand-up is akward and a little stiff but he's a really strong guy with some good wrestling and as we know, wrestling is Silva's kryptonite. If this stays on the feet, Silva takes it with relative ease.

Even with Okami's strong wrestling, I don't see how he will be able to do enough damage once on the ground (in Silva's guard) to stop the fight or even avoid a ref stand-up due to lack of action. This could easily be a snoozefest decision win for Anderson Silva.

Yeah well IMO GSP needs to prove himself against the best MW's before getting Silva. If GSP makes the jump hastily straight into a title fight, and puts on a bad performance it deflates the title picture in both divisions.

Just like Penn should not have had an imediate title shot against GSP in 2009, its insane when they do that.
