Default Clay Guida is a bad matchup for Anthony Pettis

MMALinker: TUF 13 Finale: Clay Guida is a bad matchup for Anthony Pettis

by Geno Mrosko on Mar 24, 2011

Quote:
"I give Anthony Pettis all the props in the world for not sitting around and waiting for the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. I respect the fact that he's stepping up the competition after coming off a great win against Ben Henderson to fight someone like myself. I'm a bad matchup for him. I'm a bad matchup for most of my opponents. You know you're going to have to be in shape. You know you're going to have to be able to stop a takedown or get your own takedown. You know you're going to have to strike a little. You're going to have to do a little of everything, but I do it just a little better than everyone. It's not pretty; my fighting style is definitely not that technical. But I've tightened up my game in those areas that were needed to get me to that next level and compete with the top guys."

Agreed man

I don't see Guida as any worse a matchup than Bendo was

Pettis' TDD is stellar, and that "improved standup" Guida showed in the Gomi fiht isn't going to do shit against Pettis

Hats off to Pettis for not taking the Rashad route and just sit around and wait. He's proving that in this situation he's fighting like a champ already. either way he's one hell of a fighter, win or lose in this match.

Guida is great, but I don't see how he wins this fight.

I wouldn't mind seeing Guillard and Pettis fight later this year.

This is going to be a great fight. Guida seems to be improving everytime he steps into the cage since he joined Greg Jackson. Guida has been in there with the top 155 fighters in the world and that will help him as he pulls out a UD.

I think Pettis has some really good wrestling, and is a markedly better striker then Guida. Guida always has a chance imo because of his relentless style, and hats off to Pettis for taking such a dangerous fight.
