The UFC won't cut one Nogueira and keep the other. If one Nog goes, both Nogs will go. They are perfect for any overseas card and are well enough known names that they will continue to be relevant. There are still a lot of great matchups for both that will sell. I wouldn't mind seeing Lil Nog and Shogun fight again.

I wouldn't be that surprised to see Nog get a knockout...the dude has some heavy hands and he throws them from weird angles and with almost no wind up sometimes, and of coarse never quits. He's got some great knees from the clinch too but Idk how he will fair throwing them against Phil Davis, plus the dude is jacked so he might just laugh if he has to take a knee in exchange for a takedown.

I like Davis and picked him to win, but I would like to see Nog win. Davis has alll the time in the world to mature and become a champion one day, and I have seen too many legends get beat/destroyed recently so I would really like to see minotoro pull this one out...

...so even if it is to no avail, WAR LIL NOG!

I never saw the thread either or I would have helped. The sad thing is, people dont respect wrestling in society. Its seen as a "gay" sport in highschool and middleschool, and it is barley supported in College which is a travesty. Wrestlers dominate MMA and you don't even need to be that great of a wrestler to hold a pretty good reccord since you instantly have such a giant advantage over strikers who lack grappling skills, and you can keep the BJJ guys from taking you down= Bi-Winning.

I think the most important advantage that wrestlers have over other people is the discipline to cut weight, to train hard every day, and the constant fight fight fight mentality that you develop from tournaments/competitions. I think wrestling is the most rigorous sport in any scholastic setting.

Other sports may see some glimpses of those, but not on the same level of wrestling.

To stay on topic. Lil Nog wont be cut, but he will be on the cut-list if he looses his next 2 fights.

I really don't see how people even give Brilz the fight, much less believe he was robbed. The first round was very close, both fighters got a takedown, however Nogueira did not fail any takedown attempts, and he was also more active on the feet. Brilz had a little bit of GnP, so it was definitely a close round but I think Nogueira should get it.

2nd round, also very close, Brilz scores 1 of 4 takedowns, but Nogueira had a reversal. Brilz was more active, landing more punches, so I can see him getting that round, but it was very close.

3rd round, Brilz goes 1 for 6 on takedowns. He gets outstruck 18-5, and every time Brilz gets top position Nogueira gets the reversal. This round was almost all Nogueira.

So, I think if Brilz got this decision, that would have been a robbery. There could be a case for him winning rounds 1 and 2, but I think Nogueira did enough to win round 1 and clearly won the 3rd round, so the 29-28 scores are totally fair imo.

Also, I disagree with you that college wrestling is the future of MMA. College wrestlers have been a huge force in MMA since the days of Severn, so it's hardly a new trend. Obviously there are a lot of high caliber fighters with wrestling backgrounds, and if a fighter has a single discipline background wrestling is usually the best. But I think the future is guys who train pure MMA from an early age. Gyms are springing up all over the place, and I see kids as young as 12 at my gym. So many wrestlers struggle to pick up BJJ, and striking is like a foreign language to them for the most part.

About the original article, why on earth would Nogueira get cut? He's 2-1, and he's fighting tough guys and in competitive fights.

Good points I completely agree.

I think as MMA continues to evolve we'll see more fighters who trained primarily in MMA and less who trained primarily in one discipline.

I think Lil Nog would of defeated Tito Ortiz easily after watching UFN. (Not sayign ending cause I don't want to spoil it).
