| May I ask a few questions?
I was introduced to this sport by a friend of mine awhile back and have been hooked ever since , from my boredom of every other sport , I've watched and consumed all older fights and re caps of fight i could get my hands on trying to catch up , I've had a few questions that neither web research or my friend could answer with any certainty , I've been trolling the board a bit and you folks seem to have a wealth of knowledge and if i may I'd like to ask a few questions.
1. How does the IFC , K1 / Pride , UFC and local chapters relate to each other and is K1 , Pride the same company? meaning do they start in their local area , then advance to IFC then Pride and finally UFC? or does geographical location dictate for whom they sign a contract with?
2. When does their MMA record Start?
3. I'm having trouble figuring out the ranking system , is there a protocol for the ranking system or does the UFC , IFC & Pride just give fights that people want to see , with a few prerequisites ? if there is a protocol what is it?
Thanks , i understand that the answers may be allot to type , if there are links that I'm missing i would greatly appreciate them.

I can't answer whether K1 and Pride are one in the same because I'm not sure. Im pretty sure K1 is kickboxing, but I've been wrong before. Geographical dictation doesnt dictate for whom they sign..well im sure it has SOMETHING to do with it, but I'd say it's mainly the money..u know, whoever makes the best offer. Quote: |

I can say that if these organizations gave fights that the people wanted to see, then we would have A LOT of interpromotional fights going on, which have not been happening.
Hope I could give a little insight, but im sure someone else will have some better answers than myself.

Pride and K-1 are different ORGs, K-1 is mostly kickboxing but they do have a MMA division K-1 Heroes.

Thanks , i understand that the answers may be allot to type , if there are links that I'm missing i would greatly appreciate them. | Welcome aboard. Feel free to ask any questions and join in the discussions. As for your questions:
1) UFC, IFL, Pride, K1, etc are all pretty much unrelated other than that they are all MMA leagues. Sometimes thye will work together or exchange fighters other times they won't. As for where fighters go it is usually a combination of location and money. For example Yoshida is practically a national hero in Japan so he's gonna fight for Pride or K1 because they will give him more money than a US promotion. Check out the thread stickied at the top called MMA 101, it should help out alot
2) I'm not sure what your asking. If you are asking about the fighters then it starts with their first professional MMA bout
3) The rankings are somewhat arbitrary. It's hard to really determine exact rankings so most orgs figure out the #1 contender and then just take it from there. After watching for a while you start to get a feel for who deserves a title shot next.

| First of all. An MMA record starts in his first Pro MMA fight, reguardless of the Org. he is with.
All the orgs give fights that people want to see. I don't think there is any official ranking system like in boxing mainly because it's too many ORGs. In other words, Dana White uses common sense when it comes to fighter match ups, but I think a ranking system would be good for the sport.
I think it will happen soon and we can all stop arguing about who's ranked higher than who.
