| Is Dan Henderson a top ten MMA fighter of all time?!?
Just a general question....
I know his legacy is still being written, but you hear so much about "GOAT" talk already. The common names I hear being in the top ten are
Fedor
Anderson Silva
GSP
Liddell
Couture
Wanderlei
Big Nog
Royce Gracie
BJ Penn
Hughes
With
Gomi
Cro Cop
Shogun
Rampage
Ortiz
Hendo
all getting a few mentions but not yet being placed in the top ten yet. Is it the opinion of anyone here on this site that, given all his accomplishments thus far, Dan Henderson has earned a spot in the top ten of all time?

Henderson has been champion a few times but he's never really dominated a division long term like how guys like Wandy, Fedor, Anderson, GSP or Liddell have.

This is a thread I created awhile back with most peoples answer to you question http://www.mmanews.com/forums/genera...ot-matter.html Quote:
BY ME
Top Ten all time(weight class does not matter)
So who you guys got? This is going to be very subjective (even worse than regular rankings), but screw it, it is for fun. Also, this is a quick list cause I am bored...so when you find who I missed let me know But I am pretty happy with my list
1. Royce Gracie (he is the daddy and most important fighter so far)
2. Fedor (well…one hell of a record and a who’s who of wins)
3. Wandy (5 year stretch in Pride where he was 18 and 0)
4. Anderson (still breaking all the UFC records)
5. Randy (He has 5 belts in two weight classes, enough said)
6. GSP (The new WW King)
7. Matt Hughes (longtime king of the WW division)
8. BJ (Best LW to walk the planet so far, Great skill-set)
9. Chuck (Longtime ruler of the LHW division)
10. Big Nog (Pride HW and UFC HW champ)
Honorable Mention:
Don Frye
Dan Severn
Mark Coleman
Maurice Smith
Pat Militech
Bas Rutten
Marco Ruas
Dan Henderson
Cro Cop
Ken Shamrock
Tito
Frank Shamrock
Kazushi Sakuraba

Im probably going to catch shit for this,but...
I wouldnt put Chuck or Royce in the top 10 of all time, same with BJ,and here is why. Royce did so well, because he was protected, the UFC did their best to keep other JJ guys out of the tournaments(thats why Big John is a ref and not a fighter),he looked good because of how bad everyone else was. As for Chuck,I would of put him in their, if not for what hes done to his legacy lately, he kept putting himself in fights he had no buisness being in. How Wany didnt KO him I will never know, but hes been KO'd so many times, I feel he has tarnished his legacy, even Randy said if he ever lost like that he would hang it up,one of the reasons he wants to retire soon,if not right now. As for BJ, he has done so much, but he could of done so much more, did he rule over a division,no, did he beat the best competition put in front of him,no.
Just trying to out my fan boy love aside. Would I put these guys in the top 10 most influencial fighters of all time, without a doubt, but skill wise I'm not sure, maybe BJ,but Royce has no other still then bjj,and Chuck lacks the mental discipline to know when to stop.
EDIT: And as for Hendo, he has done alot. But once he entered the UFC he couldnt do much, and it took going to SF to win another belt, against lesser competition. And even then he was gifted the LHW belt after Jake schooled him for five rounds. But, he held two PRIDE belts at the same time,so,Top 10 he is.

I believe so look at his resume:
Brazil Open 1997 Lightweight Tournament Winner
RINGS King of Kings 1999 Tournament Winner
UFC 17 MW Winner
PRIDE WW Grand Prix Winner
PRIDE WW Champion
PRIDE MW Champion
Strikeforce LHW Champion
Notable wins:W Silva, Franklin, Misaki, Bustamante, Belfort, Nogueira, Renzo Gracie, Sobral list goes on. i don't care if he didn't have the UFC belt if he has fought top competiton all around. His status could move up being top 10 all time if he fights the Shoguns or Mousasi or possibly the Fedor fight if he wins but IMO he's already top 10

This is all just preference, and each person is going to use different criteria to judge there top 10. That's what makes it hard. Then there's the whole Pride vs UFC thing. Yes Randy Couture won he title against Tim Sylvia, but the month before it Hendo smashed Wandy for the Pride MW title. Is it titles or the opponents that matter?
Too many different factors to consider, I'd have to dedicate a year to put out a GOAT list I think, If I tried now I'd produce a mush of text that makes no sense, kinda like the paragraph above, so yeah.
At the very least Dan Henderson should be considered almost instantly.

I think he deffinitely gets on the list. Multi weightclas and multi major org champion. Two belts simultaneously. Everyone else with those kind of credentials are on the list.
Also BJ should be there, multi division champion, knocked off Hughes in his prime (who should deffinitely be on there too).

I was on the fence with this one but I couldn't think of 10 people ahead of him, so he's in.
