Default [Spoiler] Do you still wanna see the superfight?

As impressed as I was with GSP overcoming blindness in one eye to defeat Jake Shields while never giving up anything close to a takedown, I also decided I don't wanna see him fight Anderson Silva. For the first time in a long time GSP looked human. 2 judges gave Shields two rounds (not that I necessarily agree), so this was the first fight GSP lost a round since...Serra? I guess if you don't count Serra, which was kind of a fluke, then it'd be the first Penn fight.

Regardless of whether you think GSP lost a round or not, what's unarguable is the amount of damage he took. He was busted open & by his own admission blind in one eye. If you had to pick someone to be after that fight, I'd much rather be Jake Shields. While GSP was never in danger of losing, he did appear touchable at 170, and if Shields could hurt him that badly I'd hate to see what Anderson is capable of.

Obviously there aren't a ton of matchups that come to mind for GSP at 170, but Nick Diaz would be a fun fight. Nick appears to have better BJJ & boxing, while GSP has far superior wrestling. Even so, Nick's BJJ at least makes that fight intriguing if it hits the ground. Plus, just seeing the classy GSP deal with the classless Diaz during press conferences & Primetime would be hugely entertaining. Diaz seems to be craving a challenge [and payday]. Who's a tougher opponent than GSP?

After that I don't see anyone worthy of a title shot, but perhaps Rory McDonald or someone else could emerge sometime relatively soon. (Fast track Rory McDonald to a title shot. Nate Diaz isn't a chump & the only other time I've seen that many german suplexes inside a cage Kurt Angle was involved.)

That's just my opinion. What do you guys think? Still wanna see GSP-Anderson?

NOT AT ALL.

GSP has a few challenges at WW. Diaz for one. Theres also winner of Condit/Stun Gun. Fitch is still in the hunt. Rick Story, if he beat Alves, would b in the mix. I dont understand why you would mention Rory McDonald. He's long way from a title shot. Plus he trains with GSP at Tri-Star.

Didn't then, still dont now. The only "SUPER FIGHT" I want is Cain vs Dominick Cruz. Now THAT is a super fight

Didn't know they trained together. I was just throwing him out there as a potential contender who could rise quickly, like someone we never really thought of before. I was really impressed with him tonight & think he could be right in the hunt with a win over a top 10 opponent. Not saying that he deserved it now.

I decided long ago, that I didn't want to see GSP v. Anderson Silva at 185, for a few reasons...

It's not because I'm a big GSP fan and don't want to see him lose, but because I don't really see the point of the fight. I fully expect Anderson to win, and I don't see the risk : reward ratio for GSP as being one worth taking.

GSP has said time and time again, that he would need to bulk up properly, and you can't fault him for that; why on earth would he go into the biggest fight in his career, at a higher weight class, without doing the work necessary to ensure his best possibly odds of victory?

So... What if he wins? Then he's the P4P king, fighting in an unnatural weight class, against guys who are way bigger than him... What if he loses? He's stuck at a weight class, that isn't natural for his frame, and he likely has drop back to welterweight; going through the shitty process of cutting pure muscle...

So in my mind, it isn't worth it for GSP to commit to the move up to 185.

But, there's alternatives...

Now... Anderson has said he would cut to 170... Holy fuckin' hell, I'd love to see the day where Anderson could make that cut... That would be something else... I'd totally be down with that fight; if you can weigh in at 171, more power to ya; but it seems unlikely to me. However, where forcing GSP to Anderson's natural weight class of 185 seems unfair, forcing Anderson to GSP's natural weight class of 170 is also unfair...

How about a catchweight? I wouldn't be opposed to that, and I don't think Anderson would either... A fight at a catchweight of 176.5 would be the fairest option (So Anderson could weigh in at 177.5 and be truly 1/2 way between 170 and 185)

I would be down for that... for sure.

Oh, I know u meant he could b in the mix someday..hes got a lot of potential. Thought you may have known he trains with GSP, seeing how Firas Zahabi was in his corner. Would love to see him scrap with someone like Amir Sadalloh before he fights top 10 guys.

No desire to see it at all. AS is king at MW; GSP is king at WW.

And that's good enough for me.

i want to see diaz fight gsp soooo badly. ellenberger, condit, rory mac, rick story, are all guys i would like to see challenge gsp for the belt. i dont necessarily think they will all win but i dont think gsp has run out of competition in the welterweight division by any means.

I'd like to say Silva would destroy GSP, but then again I recall what Sonnen did to him. GSP has better takedowns and submission defense and would be happy to lay on top of Silva for 25minutes.

Find me a contender in the WW division with takedown defense and striking (that's not BJ Penn unless he actually puts on serious weight) and you'll watch GSP go down. Matt Serra showed everyone he's human and very vulnerable to striking. Don't let him get comfortable and come at him with intent to destroy and he'll panic and try to rely on his takedowns and wrestling for control. Stuff that takedown and you'll watch him fall from grace.
