Independent Laboratory to Perform UFC 129 Drug Testing | Cagepotato

CagePotato.com has learned that the Ontario Athletic Commission did not oversee pre and post-fight drug testing for last night’s UFC 129 event in Toronto, contrary to its current set of MMA rules which state that the commission will “[test] competitors for performance enhancing and illegal drugs, where it is required in the contract between the promoter and the competitors.”

According to former Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director and current UFC Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner, testing for performance enhancing substances and for drugs of abuse were administered by an unnamed independent laboratory hired by the UFC.

This isn’t the first time that the promotion has administered its own tests. An independent lab discovered that Chris Leben had the anabolic steroid Stanazolol in his system for his UFC 89 loss to Michael Bisping October 18, 2008. He was handed a nine-month suspension from the UFC for his indiscretion.

But seriously,not every fighter gets picked to be tested,while most winners do,theirs always a chance people get ignored. Is their some thought that Lyoto might have been using?

i think lyoto machida is photoshopped onto a random cup for the purposes of having an image to go with the article. everything else is blurry but the name is nice and crisp. and why would and empty cup be sealed like that?

im fine with outsourcing the testing as long as the guilty are punished. leben was on a bit of a roll when he got busted so i dont think they would protect anyone higher up on the card. if they did protect a fighter and got found out it would be a nightmare for the UFC, not worth the risk.

Well,its a empty cup,with Lyoto's name on it,and its sealed,the sticker is in place. I wouldnt think they would label and sticker a bottle if their was no sample to begin with. Added in that the UFC paid for the tests, and winning fighters are all usually tested,actually I never heard of a winner not being tested,strikes me as very odd. Adding in the pressure Lyoto must have been feeling,two loses in a row, and his father,maybe he cracked under pressure?

It's random? I always thought every fighter was tested. I really feel this should be the norm if not. You fight, you get tested. If not maybe this is why some fighters feel they can 'get away' with it. I mean, if there is that chance of not being tested I'm sure more people would try and get away with it than if they all knew they were being tested regardless. I'm tired so I'm not sure what I'm typing is making much sense, so you'll have to forgive me if it doesn't...heh

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if ol Macdonald popped positive on a test. I know it is very speculative but I have two friends who cycle regularly and almost always get that horrible acne that Rory was sporting. Up close it looks like it has the texture of an alligator's back. Could just be I'm bored and overthinking things though.

I work in a hospital and the urine sample cups, you could call them, come like that, the point of being sealed is so nothing gets into them before the urine.

He's 21 man...lots of people have acne then. Perhaps it's a skin issue like rosasia (I can't remember how to spell it).
