Has to be Edgar beating Penn, cmon!! I liked GSP beating Hughes just cos it felt like a real passing of the torch in the division, but GSP was probably favourite for that fight. The guys that came in with what people said was no chance, was Edgar and Serra, take your pick from them. Definitely not Bones, as much as i love my boy Shogun, Bones was actually the favourite for the fight so he was expected to win by the public&media.
I enjoy your posts CtGreat but i think your letting your love of Jonny Bones cloud your vision a little. Serra shocked the MMA world but for me Edgar beat the guy who looked unstoppable in every area of that weight-class, a guy who was just destroying the top contenders at lightweight&was ranked probably number 3 or 4 on the p4p list. A fully prepared Penn at lightweight FOR ME was probably the best all round fighter in mma but Edgar proved me wrong. And he done it twice!!!!! I still to this day sometimes wake up&don't believe he done it!!

Royce Gracie UFC 2 & 4
In UFC 2 he had to beat 4 men in one night to become tournament champion.
UFC 4 he had to beat Van Clief Hackney and Severn to become tournament champion.
Not trying to hug on Gracie nuts but Royce deserves much thought into this topic.

I really believe that people like Bill Murray or John Belushi are just as great and just as valid as Robert De Niro or Al Pacino. And I don't think you can say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) is a better movie than Animal House (1978); they're different genres. I think they're both examples of great craftsmanship.

As far as the road to the title I would have to say GSP. Before he beat Hughes he had to beat Miller, Trigg, Sherk and Penn.
As for the actual fight I would probably say Edgar.

If you throw in the lead up to the belt in with the title fight, I think it has to be Edgar. He gets into the UFC off of a win over Jim Miller, then fights Tyson Griffin, Bocek, Fisher, Maynard, Franca, Sherk, Veach to get the title shot. All of those guys are pretty solid outside of Veach, and then he has to fight Penn twice to really be viewed as the champ.

This site always seems to take the feel good stories over talent...
good for him the fight was postponed. He can hold on to the belt for a couple more months.
