| Pro Boxing prospect Omar Henry switching to MMA Quote:
Undefeated professional boxer Omar Henry is set to make a move that would have been considered unthinkable several years ago.
The 10-0 prospect, is set to transition to MMA as part of the Cesar Gracie camp.
Henry trained with Nick Diaz prior to the Strikeforce welterweight champion’s successful title defence against Paul Daley in April. He has since committed to becoming a full-time member of the team.
With eight of his ten professional wins and many of his sixty amateur wins coming by stoppage inside the distance, it is no surprise that fans are already excited about his potential inside the MMA environment with the famous four-ounce gloves on.

That is good to see, it is always good to see some mma fighters with true boxing skill. He is still younger as well so it should be interesting to see how his career goes.

Nice to see everyone is also excited about this. We have seen so many talented collegiate wrestlers successfully transition to MMA, but few boxers. It will be awesome to get some top flight boxers into the mix as well. He is in a good camp, so I'd expect him to be well rounded enough to fight before too long.

Yeah the guy is still young, CG obviously have some of the best JJ trainers around so its a good start for him. I hope he does well and I get to see him fight soon.
Having pro boxing skills and starting off at a world class JJ camp is good... but whats even better is then taking those mixed skills to a more wrestling based camp. (imo)
He could always take the sprawl n brawl route and work to keep the fight standing. Or he could start honing in good top position. With heavy hands, and decent to good JJ defense, thats a scary combo.
But im getting ahead of myself lol. Ill keep an eye out for him and hopefully he gets a publicized fight soon.

There have been several and none of them have really panned out - James Edson Berto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For Edson, he is 16-8.....there is so much more in MMA to worry about than in boxing.
His father appeared at UFC 10....Dieseul Berto. His brother is a pro boxer...he is 27-1. His father taught him and his brother boxing at a very young age.
There have been some other golden glove winning MMA fighters....none of them end up at the top.
Fact is....if your opponent knows you are a boxer, he is not going to want to stand and bang. Very few want to stand outside KJ Noons range and trade with him.....they want to go in and out quickly or take him down.
I wish Omar the best, but I don't think he has a better chance than a HS wrestling standout.

I hope it works out for him. he could do very well, CroCop didnt have any wrestling or BJJ background and he made a pretty good career for himself.
He just has to get his wrestling and BJJ game up and he should be fine. Get about 10 fights under his belt in a lower class org to work on his skills and he should be fine in 2 years.

I don't think he can take any amateur bouts as he is a high grade pro boxer.
