| Matt Hamill and Duff Holmes Talk Rampage, Jon Jones Rematch UFC 130 Fight Card: Matt Hamill and Duff Holmes Talk Rampage, Jon Jones Rematch - Bloody Elbow
by Tim Burke Quote:
"Well, actually, yeah. I really wanted it. It all happened when Duff, my trainer, he found out that Thiago Silva's not fighting, so it was a good opportunity for me to step in at a higher level. We wanted to fight anyone in the higher level -- the top 10. The higher the level it is, the more motivated I get."
"(Matt) doesn't blame Rampage for wanting Rashad and wanting to fight the top guys in the division. He's been doing that. But when (Matt) found out that Rashad was hurt and that he could get a shot against Rampage, that's when he actually -- for the first time ever (in his career) -- he went out and said, ‘I'll break Rampage's will,' and ‘I can beat Rampage.' That's the first time he's ever talked like that. He did it just so he could put a little pressure on Rampage, because he actually figured that Rampage probably wouldn't want to take the fight."
"I know Jon Jones is more like a long spider. Spider legs and all that. ... But I fought him. I still have unfinished business with him. So if I fight him, I'll redeem myself and not make another mistake. He's the first fighter to ever take me down, and it gave me a little wakeup call. This time, I got my hips ready and my feet ready; my feet are nailed to the ground, and I'm back to a wrestling base."

I dont wanna underestimate Matt like he has no chance but Rampage is going to do very bad things to him. So he won't have to worry about getting beat up by Bones again.

Hmm... I'm wondering if Matt really has decided to go back to his wrestling roots. I hope he has because he definitely does not want to trade with Rampage. Rampage has faster, more accurate, and heavier hands than Matt. BUT if Matt decides to wrestle Rampage he should get the decision and maybe even get a TKO with ground and pound. After the Rashad fight I can see Matt getting the decision fairly easily if he is able to keep Rampage on the ground.

Hamill wants a rematch with Jones? If someone beat me that badly, I would be having nightmares.
Thee way he got beaten, there is no way in hell I see him surviving the first round of a rematch.

Matt didn't really make any mistakes w/Jones, he was just out of his league. Even if he doesn't get taken down, I can't see his stand up doing well against Jones. Jones took out one of the best strikers in the business right off the bat with a flying knee and after that he just manhandled Shogun. I like Matt but seriously, Jones is not the matchup for him.

I am telling you people are underestimating Matt's hands. they look slow but I have seen his training footage and I honestly believe he and his corner know what they are doing. also, gotta keep in mind and comprehend that he simply, cannot hear his corner which makes a huge difference for those of ya'll who compete |

He's got the chin and the wrestling. Not to mention the motivation. Let's face it, it's been a long time since Rampage was like his old self.

Thee way he got beaten, there is no way in hell I see him surviving the first round of a rematch. | I rewatched this the other day and Hamill might not have knocked Jones out standing but he was doing ok and just trying to open up takedowns. When they clinched, he was too worried about knees and got thrown, which dislocated his shoulder. Once his arm was gone, he got pounded out. But it's not like there's a high probability of his shoulder popping out on the first takedown again. I don't think he'd be held down so easily if he wasn't injured.
