Sherdog: Yes, it’s true. After defeating Damacio Page (Pictures) (dubbed Jackson Page by K-1) early in the opening round by triangle choke, Genki Sudo (Pictures) announced that he’s going to step away from fighting in the ring.
“The Neo Samurai” made the statement during his post-fight interview, and didn’t make it clear what he’s planning on doing next.
He mentioned something about traveling overseas to see how human beings solve their problems and live happily together. But nobody is sure what he’s going to do. One thing everybody knows is Sudo has written a book and recently debuted as a singer. He’s been on many TV variety shows, so it’s natural to think that Sudo could find a home in the TV talent business.
he'll probably end up in acting or something, thats what he's been doing lately anyways

Here's a translation (me and my Japanese girlfriend have painstakingly tried to get it as close as possible): Thankyou very much for your support today. And thankyou for your support throughout my career - I have finished my fighting in the ring today.
In whatever I do, I wish to create a great life and future with you. I've had a wonderful career as a fighter.
We are all one.
Thankyou very much.
I like the 'I have finished my fighting in the ring' bit - probably not meant to be read into, but I can wish...

Genki Sudo retires from mixed martial arts, December 31, 2006
K-1 superstar Genki Sudo announced his retirement Sunday following his win over Damacio Page, leaving the 51,930 fans at the Kyocera Dome Osaka shocked.
Sudo made his way to the ring with a dazzling entrance influenced by the Mayan civilization.
Inside the ring, Sudo began the match with his typical showmanship. He bent down and patted his rear before being taken down by Page. In the guard position, Sudo worked for a triangle choke while enduring Page's ground and pound strikes. Sudo finally locked in the submission to win at 3 minutes and 5 seconds.
After the fight, Sudo stood in the middle of the ring with a microphone in his hand. Sudo thanked everyone for their support and stated that he would like to finish fighting in the ring on this day.
Sudo cited a persistent neck injury along with a nagging ankle injury as reasons for his departure at the young age of twenty-eight.
Sudo is not only an entertainer in the ring; he is also a musician and writer. Sudo plans travel the world as he continues those endeavors.
