| What's in a nickname?
What's in a name? Or more to the point - What's in a nickname?
What is your opinion on:
(Please provide explanations)
1. The coolest or most creative nicknames?
2. The dumbest nicknames?
3. The nickname that fits the fighter the bests?
4. The nickname that doesn't go well with a fighter's name?
5. The most overused or boring nicknames?
My answers:
1. The World's Most Dangerous Man - a writer originally gave this name to Ken and at the time it fit him perfectly/Ikuhisa "The Punk" Minowa - he fights like a punk with all his flashy moves/Shogun - just a cool sounding name for the type of fighter he is
2. The People's Warrior - cmon' now, there's gotta be a better one than that!/Travis "The Serial Killer" Lutter - doesn't go well with the name
3. Matt "the Terra" Serra - terra rhymes with serra, Mark "Hammer" Coleman - because it was the first popular use of hammer, Pedro "The Rock" Rizzo - because Pedro literally means rock as in Peter or the Greek version Petros.
4. Matt "The Hammer" Hammill - hammer sounds too much like his last name, and therefore doesn't sound as good when it is spoken.
5. Assassin and Pitbull - too many fighters use these nicknames
Assassin: Melvin Guillard (Young), Mikey Burnett (East Side) there are a ton others.
Pitbull: Andrei Arlovski, Thiago Alves to name a few.
One last question: why doesn't Matt Hughes have a nickname? Is he too cool for one? Or does his personality not fit a particular nickname? I mean the other top champs have nicknames - Iceman, Muscle Shark, Spider, Maine-iac and Rush...?

gayest nickname is Kendal Grove biting Anderson Silva's nickname.
Anderson "The Spider" Silva
Kendal "Da Spyder" Grove
And yes Burkman's "The Peoples Warrior" is the gayest in the history of MMA as I have stated before when someone else created a similar threas to this months and months ago.
I used to like Kendal before realizing he bit Andersons nickname, now I dispize him.
Mark "The Smashing Machine" Kerr or "The Specimine" were both fitting as he was a beast of a man.
Brandon "The Truth" Vera is a good one.
ANd the best of all, Fedor "I don't need a fuggin nickname to beat you senseless" Emelianenko.
Never been a fan of nicknames.

Never been a fan of nicknames. | I agree with everything you said. And Matt Hughes doesn't need a nickname.

I don't mind nicknames, though I do think that most of the dumb ones just come from fighters deciding their own and not knowing what else to call themselves.
That being said, I like "The Prodigy" (cause BJ is certainly that), and "Little Evil," though Pulver's recent blowout loss just proved that he is in fact only a little evil.
Though I like Florian as a fighter, I DESPISE "Kenflo." Just sounds stupid.
And I don't hold Grove's "Da Spyder" against him. Someone else probably gave it to him anyway. And what the hell else are you going to call that guy? Can you imagine Bruce Buffer calling out "Kendall 'Lanky-Bones' Grove!" or "Kendall 'Stretch Armstrong' Grove!"?

1. Coolest or most creative
Cro Cop - If you have a lame last name, come up with a nickname that'll make you're last name obsolete; Rampage - i just like it. not a lotta fighters i call by their nickname, but he's one; Mayhem - see Rampage; The Dean of Mean - goes good with his last name, and just sounds cool; El Guapo - as if something about Bas couldn't be cool; Spencer 'The King' Fisher - he's hardly the king, but its a nice play on 'the fischer king'; Shogun - i'm glad he didn't make the same mistake as the nogueira brothers and have the same nickname as his brother, and shogun just sounds cool
2. The dumbest nicknames?
People's Warrior - this makes it hard to like burkman; Young Assassin - you're not gonna be young forever; nate 'the rock' quarry - that's rizzo's name, bottom line; Ken-Flo - that's just as dumb as calling yourself kenny 'kenny florian' florian
3. The nickname that fits the fighter the bests?
The Muscle Shark; Rush; the Russian Experiment; Iceman; Rampage; Mayhem; Butterbean
4. The nickname that doesn't go well with a fighter's name?
Ken-Flo is the only one that comes to mind
5. The most overused or boring nicknames?
just about anything with assassin(except for terrell's Soul Assassin) and anything that takes a nation of origin and slaps 'sensation' on it, i.e. the croatian sensation, asian sensation, etc.

How about Frank "twinkletoes" Trigg, either he is really comfortable with his manhood or he is gay. I think he's gay not only because of the nickname but because of the leopard skin trunks he wore against Matt Hughes.
A couple good ones Crocop, Randy The Natural Couture, Shogun Rua, Sakuraba The Gracie Hunter, the New York Badass Phil Baroni
Shitty ones are KENFLO, Kevin THE MONSTER Randleman, Pe De Pano, and Melvin the Young Assassin Guilliard---What will he call himself when he gets older The Middle Aged Assassin?
