| Japanese Bias
I fear the Japanese bias that exist in Japan will some day end up killing one of there fighters. Saku and Yoshida have been left to take brutal beating in each of there last two outing. The refs are trying to give those guys as many possible chances two win as they can, but sadly one of these days some one is going to be seriously hurt.

Could happen to anyone of any ethnicity though. The refs for the most part know the fighters and what the fighters are capable of taking. That being said, it does seem like Pride refs let the fights go a bit longer and let people take more punishment.
I just don't think that it'll be necessarily a japanese person who ends up with a brain hemorrhage.

Yoshida had his semi-unconscious body drug off the ropes to the middle of the ring for a restart. And in his last fight against CroCop the ref stopped the fight to try and get Yoshida to stand up (he had a broken leg).
Plus you say pride refs let the fights go a bit longer tell that to Shamrock when he fought Saku. Do you know that pride refs are employees of pride and not a commission.

Saku has no business being in a ring/cage anymore...sadly.

I agree that they allow the japanese starts take more than most in an effort to allow them to come back. someone may get hurt very bad one day. in general most japanese refs let the action go alittle longer then refs here in the states. not always but many times.

Yeah you right, but they have a samurai mentality Japanese fighters don't want the ref to stop the fight until there half dead.
Look at the first match with Gomi and Aurelio,Gomi tapped and the ref planed ignored it.
The ref only stopped it when Gomi's whole body went limp and his eyes where closed, thank God it was a blood choke not a Air choke or Gomi could have died or had brain damage.

Yet how many times have I heard the American commentators blather on about how the safety of the fighters is of the utmost importance.
I admire the samuai mentality and I like a good battle as much as anyone else, but I'm not willing to pay the price of someone's life or brain damage for my entertainment. I can only hope there is a change in the officiating before it happens.

pride overall is more dangerous than the UFC not only because of the Japanese bias but also because you can soccer kick a guy in the head and stomp on is face so overall you may see more serious injuries in Japan where there are not as many regulations on what a fighter can do to his opponent

It´s not just Pride and Japanese fighters, just a couple of days ago watched Hoost vs Le Banner in k-1 at late 90s. Le Banner dropped Hoost, who barely got up, was leanin to ropes and ref just restarts and Le Banner drops him again. Then he somehow got back up, walked like a mummy and had clearly no idea what was going on and ref would still let it go but thank god they trohw in the towel.
They have this thing of leting their stars almost rather die in the ring than loose. And They have some strange desicions too.
