| Cain Velasquez Says Unlike Fitch and Koscheck, He Would Fight Teammate Daniel Cromier Video: Cain Velasquez Says Unlike Fitch and Koscheck, He Would Fight Teammate Daniel Cormier If Necessary | Cagepotato Quote:
UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was interviewed recently by Full Contact Fighter and the UFC heavyweight champion dropped an interesting nugget about a hypothetical fighting situation that could happen one day.
Velasquez says that if push came to shove and he was matched up with his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Daniel Cormier in the future, he would fight him, but only if there were ranking or title implications on the line and that the sentiment is a mutual one he’s spoken about with the wrestling standout.
Maybe Velasquez and Cormier should talk to Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck about how friends fighting friends — which happens a lot in the college and amateur wrestling circuits — isn’t a personal thing. It’s just business.

Good! Enough of this "we can't fight because we're teammates" crap. Suck it up and fight.

He would because he knows he owns him in practice.

Cain is saying he would only fight Cormier for "title implications", which is what Kos and Fitch have said in the past as well. The philosophy of fight teammates at AKA still hasnt changed, so no big news really.
Plus, Cain and Cormier havnt been a part of AKA as long as Fitch and Kos. Maybe there isnt much of a tight knit friendship between the 2 yet. Give it some time and I bet down the line Cain would be hesitant to fighting a teammate at all.

Its bull. If your a fighter, you fight who you can. If your a competitor, you fight who you can beat.

Looks like Cain made his priorities public $$$ over friends. In a way it's good he's letting his teammates know what's up, in other ways puts him at odds at least with my priorities in life. I understand most/some members here talking about bashing their friends faces just because out of 6billion people UFC can't find some one else you could fight.
In other words, Cain will meet his quote some day with a turning tide.

i think the reason a lot of fighters may not want to fight teammates is ego..who wants to possibly lose to a guy youre gonna see in the gym afterwards everyday??

Fitch doesnt want to fight Kos under ANY circumstances.
And look where its got him..
I dont understand the point of it really, it happens in pretty much EVER single other sport. Shit fighters on TUF fight teammates just for the chance to get into the UFC!
If teammates can fight for a chance to get into the UFC, then every other scenario is more rewardable. imo. Quote:

In other words, Cain will meet his quote some day with a turning tide. | Maybe Cains priorities are establishing himself as one of the greatest in the world, not like that chance comes around too often. (Shit im not even the best at anything in my city lol)
Maybe Cains priorities are the best intrest of his family? And money certaintly helps that. Making millions of dollars a year and setting my family up for life is more then enough incentive for me to have a professional competition with a buddy of mine. Especially since we do it everyday training anyways lol. Nothing says they have to become enemys after the fight. Griffin/Dunham is a perfect example. Real good friends, trained together, fought eachother, are friends again.
