Default modern army combatives

not sure if this should be posted here. if not, please move it where it belongs.

just wanted my forum homies to see this.. this is from veteran's day weekend. a army combatives tournament here in south korea.

MPEG0011.AVI - YouTube

a lil' background:

there are graduated rules.. first stage starts off just submission grappling / bjj format.

if you win those matches you go to an old school pancrase type of style.

if you pass that stage, you go onto the full mma match which decides 1st and 2nd place of the tourney. i got 3rd no full on for me this time, but there's another tourney in FEB i'm trying to compete in as well...

any constructive critism or critique is very welcome... i've been training about 2 years now off and on, but never really seriously (once or twice a week) and my weight class is 140lb. oh, and i'm in the red

Nice spin kick man. That guy did not like your leg kicks haha. Great performance man, that was pretty entertaining.

Great kicks and great Kimura like everyone is saying. If I had one criticism it would be not to give up position. You had that guy mounted and went for the arm bar and ended up on bottom. Had that guy been a good grappler you might have been in trouble. That was pretty cool to watch. I was in the army national guard and was deployed for a year, but never did the combatives. I would have to watch it again, but didn't you have a good throw on the guy as well?

That attempted spinning back kick would have been brutal if it landed.

Interesting ruleset.

spinning back kick was setup nicely. looks like someone is taking advantage of being in south korea...

armbar from mount is an unstable move. you can lose position like what happened here. double wristlock or arm triangle is less risk.

if knees were allowed, it couldve been over much sooner.

nice timing on the leg kicks. blue couldve committed with them even more without much risk vs this opponent.

Understand the red part lived on Army pay myself, isn't Korea a cheaper place to live still over the states. It seemed like your coach was doing a good job calling the moves. Listend once didn't notice what he said on the mount when you lost it. I envy you when I was ending my prime UFC 1 was just coming out. I got to spar once under those rules had a great time, dam sore afterwards but a great time indeed. So for now listen to your coach and send more video
Good luck

great job man

if you want any advice I only have a little

you always circle to your right. never let your opponent know what angle's you feel comfortable in. also after you went for the first armbar, when you turtled, you let the guy stand over you, instead of putting you feet on his knees and pushing his base around

as someone who wrestled from 8-24, 2nd grade through college, I can say you have a great wrestling base, and did the correct thing of establishing position before trying to work from it

also, when he was on his back and you were kicking his legs, kick at a downward angle, instead of straight through. if you try and throw your shoulders with the kick its a bit easier

overall great fight. just dont head to the right all the time. go left, right, back, forth

keep em on their toes and never let them know where you'll be when you strike
