| Nogueira’s Doc Opts Against Arm Surgery After Break at UFC 140 Big Nog's Doc Opts Against Surgery-Sherdog c/o Blackhouse Quote:
Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will not undergo surgery on his right arm, which was broken by a Frank Mir kimura last Saturday at UFC 140 in Toronto.
Nogueira’s twin and fellow UFC fighter Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira shared news of his brother’s condition Monday on Twitter after a consultation with orthopedic surgeon Dr. John Itamura in Los Angeles.
“We’ve just had a medical diagnosis,” wrote Minotoro. “[Dr. Itamura] said he would prefer not to do surgery, that [the bone] will calcify by itself and that in five months, he’s fighting again.”
UFC officials referred Nogueira to Dr. Itamura, who prescribed twice-a-day ultrasound therapy and fitted “Big Nog” with a brace. The plastic accessory will allow Nogueira to move his arm, something the pure plaster of a hard cast would not. Long regarded as one of MMA’s finest grapplers, Nogueira’s submission defeat against Mir marked the first such loss of the Brazilian’s 42-fight career.

That's good. Sounds like it will be a solid heal.
All that aside, Nogueira's head has to be all screwed up. Nogueira basically got Nogueira'd. Had a fight in the bag, and ended up getting submitted. Between losing a fight he had won while looking the best he's looked since Randy, falling short on redemption and getting submitted for the first time in MMA, he's probably feeling pretty bad.

Yup, it definitely sucks. He doesn't seem as mobile as he usually does on the ground, maybe because he really hasn't been tested there in a long time. He also was out for a good while before the Schaub fight. His boxing has looked very crisp, though. He can still tear some shit up at HW imo.

just a clean break with no ligament or muscle damage is the best case scenario

Big Nog vs Werdum or Big Nog vs Fedor
Or If Mark Hunt isn't successful against Kongo. Mark Hunt vs Big Nog....Hunt never got to face Nog in Pride.
Time has taken a toll on Big Nog. Too many big athletic guys at HW for him to pose a serious threat. If you watch his striking, he has some clean shots he throws, but he has a sloppy late right that he throws. Anyone with speed or size over Nog, with a decent chin will beat him 9 times out of 10.
Still love to watch him fight, and I hope he stays in the UFC for another 3-4 years. But I have a feeling he might only fight another couple times before retirement.

I'm surprised his shoulder came out ok with the amount of torque Mir had on that.

Big Nog vs Hunt OR Big Nog vs Brock Lesner. I would love to see them go at it.

I hope he's feeling okay mentally and heals well.
It definitely had to hurt his pride getting beat like that by Mir.

Hopefully Big Nog will rebound to have at least one more fight in the UFC. Though, I can't help but wonder what affect this downtime will have on his already aging body. Granted he's only 35, but anyone can look at him and see that he's not aging well; I say this referencing his appearance and not his skillset. Ugh, if he would've just let Mir up...
I'm a big fan of Minotauro and hope to see him compete again.
