| If you're entertained, UFC on FX 1 fighter Pat Barry's job is done If you're entertained, UFC on FX 1 fighter Pat Barry's job is done Quote:
"I ask all the people that was wondering why I wasn't still upset about those losses, I ask them, 'How come you're not still pissed off about failing a math test in sixth grade?'" Barry told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com).
The point is, get over it.
Now, some might say Barry (6-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) is being flippant. He's lost his two most recent fights, courtesy of Kongo and Struve, and carries a 3-4 UFC record. All the usual fight narratives talk about the crushing pressure of the unemployment threatened by a dreaded three consecutive losses. That's the possibility he faces when he meets Christian Morecraft (7-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on the main card of UFC on FX 1, which takes place Friday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and airs live on FX. The event's preliminary card airs on FUEL TV.
If you haven't figured it out by now, though, Barry isn't usual in any way.
"Maybe that's a downfall on my part," he said. "I don't know. But I don't go into these fights thinking, 'Oh man, pressure, two (losses).' I get into every fight swinging for the fences I'm like Mike Tyson no matter who it is, no matter what my previous result was.
"Coming off two losses is no different than coming off two wins, in my opinion. But give me some responses to that."
There have already been a few, at least from the media. They've wondered whether a fighter who's entertaining necessarily deserves a job in the most competitive fight promotion in the world. Could Barry's job not go to someone who offers the promise of a future contender?
The answer is no, for now. UFC president Dana White likes the fact that the heavyweight always brings it, and that's just as valuable as the up-and-comer or the gatekeeper populating the division.
"I like the Arturo Gatti-type fighters, guys who always bring it" White said after Barry's loss to Struve. "And that's what this is about. When you're a fight fan, you tune in to see fights, and I like guys who do it."
Barry, of course, isn't all peachy that he loses more frequently than he wins. But he gets his role.
"The sport has evolved nowadays to where it's not just about fighting any more," he said. "We're entertainers. We're athletes first, but we're entertainers along with being athletes. So we've got to be able to fight, and we've got to be able to perform. I can throw a jab and run from anybody. But who wants to see that?
"I don't necessarily get into it to make people go, 'Ooh,' and that's it. But that is a part of it. We all fight for ourselves, but part of what we want is to please the crowd. I come into put on a show. It's 'HD.' Either I'm killing people, or I'm getting killed. I'm going to lose better than anybody if I do." | If you're entertained, UFC on FX 1 fighter Pat Barry's job is done | MMAjunkie.com |

Beware of the Techno Viking.
I really hope he can get a win, because even though he is entertaining and exciting and makes for great fights, you can only do that for so long before you need a win or you will get dropped.
I guess it worked for Tito. He went 1-6-1 in his last 8 fights in the UFC. Tito draws a big crowd, and as long as Barry can do the same....it is hard for the UFC to drop him.
Only problem is that I don't think Barry has the same fan base as Tito.

Barry should be fine, I just can't see UFC cutting him, the guy shows up ready to fight every time... with the exception of that CC fight, but I swear he lost that fight because he felt sorry for CC. lol

I like Pat Barry but at times he seems a little to easy going and I think it transfers over into his fights at times. I'd like to see him fight with more of a killer instinct.

I glad to the fact he puts himself out their, but he still could of got a few more wins doing it and still been exciting. I think this fight was made for him to get a win or face plant himself .

Always been a big Barry fan. The man always brings it as dana mentioned and I would still cheer him on and hope he keep his job in the UFC even if he were to lose 7 in a row as long as he isn't being KO'd each time like Chuck or Wandy then he should always keep his job. Pat add's instant fireworks to any card and to me is what Bonnar/Griffin are to the casual fan but at a higher weight harder hitting more in your face type experince. Only problem with Pat is he is extremly one dimentional and will only add that bang to your card if you match him with someone willing to trade and not exploit his weaknesses. And also like above mentioned I feel for his skillset he lacks a bit on the killer instinct but maybe thats just cause he knows he could kill and is to nice of a guy lol I dont know

Pat Berry is one of a small handful of fighters that I can't imagine cheering against. He's entertaining, in and out of the cage, and seems like a genuinely good guy.
And though I hope his fighting career isn't over any time soon, he's also someone I think would be awesome at commentary, and hopefully it's something he'll pursue.

Barry is most certainly not Mike Tyson. Barry lacks a killer instinct and is slow to react when he has the advantage. I enjoy his fights but that is my qualm with him.
