| After Mulling Retirement, Matt Hughes Hopes to Fight Again in UFC After Mulling Retirement, Matt Hughes Hopes to Fight Again in UFC Quote:
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes is expecting to meet with UFC president Dana White and make his case for at least one more fight in the UFC.
During an interview on FUEL TV, Hughes said that while his wife wants him to retire, he has the itch to return to the octagon. Hughes (45-9) has lost each of his last two fights by knockout.
"I think Dana could be the final decision maker," he said. "My wife's a great lady, but she's not going to tell me when Matt Hughes retires."
Hughes fought just once in 2011, getting KO'd in the last second of the first round of a UFC 135 bout against Josh Koscheck. Prior to that, he suffered another knockout, this one to BJ Penn in just 21 seconds in November 2010.
Overall, Hughes is just 3-4 in his last seven fights.

"I'm just hoping I can fight next," he said. "We'll see what happens. I'm not scouting anybody out. I'm just hoping the opportunity is here for me now."

i was waiting in line before the doors opened when Matt walked by... by no means am i to tell him when he should hang it up.. but when he walked by and shook my hand he looked grey and not at all like he wanted to be there... in fact he looked down right pissed that he was there
im not sure another fight would be wise but hey im not him and i dont know his body like he does... im just saying from my casual view he looked quite old and not like he was in the shape to fight anyone

Hardy wants to lose to em. How I could see Hughes getting motivated for the fight is beyond me though. I don't see him having many options at this point in his career.

After mulling retirement sounds to me like, "I found hanging out farming with Mark all day long was too damn boring" lol.

He should not be used to build up some fighter and instead in his last fight be given someone that is beatable but also means something. Serra or Royce rematch, or possibly a fight against Hallman. Another fight that would be interesting is Jake Shields.
I feel for Hughes. Here is a guy that could possibly be consider the most dominating champion in MMA history but when he was champion he was making pennies compared to the fighters of now. If he was going on that title run now he would be making 4-5 million a fight instead of the 30K he was making back then. You can not blame the guy seeing that kind of money still on the table for not wanting to retire.

Stun Gun could be a good fight for him? If I were to have one pick for a last fight for him it would be Hallman. But Hardy will do aswell.

but since they probably wont let Thiago Silva roid out and wail on Hughes, Id rather see Alves struggle with weight, and then land another highlight reel ending
