| MMANews FORUMS rankings (New Top 15) - January 31, 2012 New addition: Top 15 for the first 7 divisions; Top 10 for flyweight and women's p4p Please note that the MMANews FORUMS rankings are separate from the MMANews website rankings. Committee members: Dr. MMA, Rivethead, KevoOnTheRadio, TBEAR, DiegoNightmare Alternate members: Mac ( Mac will fill in as an alternate member if one of the members of the committee is unavailable.) Appointed to combine and matrix rankings from the committee members: SWIFTboy** **SWIFTboy is also responsible for breaking any ties. The following criteria were taken into account while generating the rankings:
A) Rankings are not based on opinion of fighter's skillset and potential but are based on evidence, i.e. fighter's opposition, track record, how dominant the wins were (dependent on opposition), and how dominant the losses were (dependent on opposition).
B) Recent victories hold more weight than historical, however, it doesn't negate it.
C) A fighter is ranked in the division where they have had their two most recent consecutive fights. This could be two actual fights or one actual fight and a scheduled/planned fight. For example, Kenny Florian is still considered a FW now (last 2 actual fights were at FW and only has plans for LW). There are some exceptions to this rule, for example Nate Marquardt is now considered a WW even though his last actual fight was at MW. This is because he has had two scheduled back-to-back fights at WW (one of which he made weight for and did not fight due to unforeseen circumstances).
D) If a fighter hasn't fought in 18 months or hasn't won a fight in 24 months, he will be removed from the top 10.
E) If Fighter A wins a recent head-to-head matchup against Fighter B, it does not necessarily mean Fighter A moves ahead of fighter B. Head-to-head matchups are primarily considered when rankings are tied, similar to other sports like hockey or soccer.
e.g. If half of us thought that Machida was #3 and the other half thought Rampage was #3, then we look to their actual fight. Rampage won, so he moves up and Machida moves down.
F) With regards to the holy trinities (e.g. Machida beat Rashad who beat Rampage who beat Machida), we evaluate the individual's rank and their opposition's at the time of the fight. More recent victories are weighed heavier as are more dominating victories.
e.g. #4 ranked Machida defeated #1 ranked Rashad in May 2009, #3 ranked Rashad beat #4 ranked Rampage in May 2010, and #4 ranked Rampage beat #2 ranked Machida in Nov 2010. However, the dominance of their victories varied greatly. These factors was taken into consideration.

How is Vitor Belfort ranked #5 in the Middleweight category??? He's only fought in the UFC twice in the MW division, and lost one of them. The other 2 fights were catchweight fights. For criteria letter C alone, he should be far lower on the list (if on there at all): Quote: |
C) A fighter is ranked in the division where they have had their two most recent consecutive fights. This could be two actual fights or one actual fight and a scheduled/planned fight. This is because he has had two scheduled back-to-back fights at WW (one of which he made weight for and did not fight due to unforeseen circumstances).
| So adding the Johnson fight towards a MW fight (since it was scheduled to be so), he's still only 2-1 in that division. Looking at Michael Bisping's record for the last 2 years, he's 4-1. So how is Vitor above Bisping? It makes no sense.

I gotta wonder this about the HW rankings...
Why is Schuab ranked above Nelson?
Nelson beat Schuab.
I know Nelson has since lost 2 fights and Schuab only one - Nelson's 2 losses are to Mir & JDS. Schuab's too Nog.
I would say the quality of fights each figher has won since would be about equal - Nelson beat Struve & Cro Cop / Schuab beat Gonzaga & Cro Cop plus a couple plugs.
Soo.. yes Schuab has 2 more wins and one less loss than Nelson since their fight but I would argue the win for Nelson and quality of fights he participated in since negate the extra fights (against no name plugs) by Schuab.
Plus, Nelson didnt beat but did last 3 rounds of a stand up war with JDS. I dont think Schuab would even get outta the first with the champ.
And on the MW division ...
Maia still top 10? really?
Maia has not beat a top 10 guy since Feb 2009... 3 years ago. Yes, we know he had a title shot in 2010, but losing a title shot shouldnt hold to much weight.

Its a secret vote in that no one sees the others vote. I was actually demoted to like second alternative which is like being the ref in a spin the bottle game. I told them to put it in their asses.
