Michael Bisping splits from longtime team at Wolfslair

Quote:
Top-ranked middleweight Michael Bisping is no longer a member of Wolfslair MMA Academy.

A source close to the camp today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) but declined to go into specifics about the change.

Bisping (22-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) most recently took on Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX 2 and suffered a unanimous decision loss, which scratched a middleweight title shot against champ Anderson Silva.

Bisping's work with the U.K.-based MMA team extended through much of his success in the UFC. In 2006, he won "The Ultimate Fighter 3" and subsequently went on a three-fight win streak before a split decision loss to Rashad Evans briefly halted his momentum.

During his work with the camp, Bisping worked with high-profile additions to the team such as Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Cheick Kongo. Wolfslair trainers Dave Jackson and Mario Neto were also featured when Bisping took a coaching job on "The Ultimate Fighter 9."

Recently, Bisping relocated to Huntington Beach, Calif., and trained with UFC vet Tiki Ghosn and standout wrestler Brady Fink.

In 2005, Bisping was stripped of his light-heavyweight title in the now-defunct Cage Rage promotion due to "management issues," according to a statement released on the British promotion Cage Warriors Fighting Championships website. Bisping won and defended the Cage Warriors Fighting Championships three times before his move to the UFC.

Attempts to reach Bisping were unsuccessful.

Wow, this seems pretty significant, as Bisping's name goes almost hand in hand with Wolfslair (although not as much as that moron who has the gym's name tattooed on his back, anyone remember who that is? Paul Kelly maybe?)

So I wonder is he going to make a move to the States, or will he just move over for his fight camps maybe? I'm obviously not the most educated on the topic, but how many other high level MMA gyms are there in the UK that can benefit someone at the level he is at, at this point in his career?

I think I heard on the Fox card w/ Bisping, Rogan or Goldy mentioned Bisping recently moved to the states and has been training there.

haha that is hilarious, I honestly had no idea he's had all that work done on it since then. I guess he realized that might not have been the smartest ink to put on yourself, sort of restricts your training options lol

More important IMO is where he'll land.

Wolfslair wasn't really getting him where he needed to be as a fighter and hasn't done so for a longtime.

Seems like a perfect fit to me

It's ironic really. The most impressed I have ever been with the Count is in his last fight.

Still not a big fan of the guys attitude at times, but I think he's earned a bit more respect then he's been getting

This was inevitable really, I'm surprised it wasn't predicted.

Travelling so frequently between the states and the UK would cause serious jet lag. The time difference is horrible.

Bisping may end up at Coconut Creek with ATT perhaps? they'll be attracting a lot of top talent with their new fee structure.
