Did it live up to the hype?

I think it did live up to the hype. IMO it is the best UFN so far. All the fights had good action in them, nothing glaringly bad in any of the fights.

I'm afraid I had to go with no. Silva/Leben might've been destruction, but I expected a more exciting fight than that. No matter what happens in 49 seconds, I expected more in that one. Evans/Bonnar I kind of expected to go the way it did, but hoped it wouldn't. Gurgel/Hominick was way less than I expected, plus they never aired Alves/Fitch, they decided to push MacDonald beating up a nobody instead. Cummo/Goulet was pretty decent, although the matchmaking was stupid because Goulet - as even the announcers were saying, is pretty much "the guy Bang Ludwig KO'd in 11 seconds", and Ludwig doesn't even fight for the company lol. So Cummo, who fans consider a star gives the rub to someone fans already think of as a wimpy Canadian low-card fighter (even though that's a harsh way to describe Goulet, because he's better than what he showed in the Ludwig fight).

On a scale of 1-10 I'd give UFN about a 6 or 7, and I expected about an 8, 9, or even a perfect 10 from a card this stacked. The prelim bouts on paper seemed exciting, and almost all of the televised fights went to decision.

It was good ,but in no way the best.

Best on paper, definitely. I can't even remember the UFN's too well, they all kinda blur together for me and I don't tape them like PPVs, so I don't rewatch them. Not sure how this UFN ranks with the previous four.

I am not saying it was the best card ever. But the UFN cards in the past have only been so so. I would say it is better then UFN 1,3,4 and about as good as UFN 2.

I think there are three reasons why this UFN sucked.

1. Rashad Evans is one of the most boring fighters *EVER*. He just lays there in guard, or pushes the guy up against the fence and holds him there. To his credit, this was his best fight so far (the slams were pretty good), although still boring as hell. On the bright side... now that he's beat Bonnar, he'll fight someone tougher that'll lay an ass-whoopin on him. Forrest Griffin, Tito Ortiz maybe? A man can dream.

2. Mark Hominick running away. Mark Hominick running away... again! Honestly, I was hoping he'd lose the decision, just to teach him a lesson.

3. Joe Rogan... "for shore".

Having said all of that, I thought the Silva-Leben fight was *amazing*. I wish every fighter came out there and left it all on the line like Silva.

Rogan's a great announcer... I'm not sure anyone else out there could call it like he does. But he says "for shore" (ie. "for sure")... over and over and over. Maybe I shouldn't be so irritable... but man... I couldn't be the only one that noticed that :)
