Lorenzo: Rampage won't be released, Shogun fight "interesting"

A rematch between Quinton ‘Rampage’ and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua is very likely for the summer.
UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta says that the errant former champion Jackson, who has been talking for a week of wanting to part ways with the UFC, won’t be going anywhere until he fulfils the last fight of his contract with the UFC.
And given talks that they’ve had, it seems that Shogun - a rematch he has specifically requested recently and in the past - is the likely opponent. Shogun, who stopped Jackson quickly when they met under the Pride FC banner in 2005, has been waiting for news of his next opponent and Jackson would fit the bill nicely.
Today, Fertitta told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports: “He has one more fight on his contract and our position is that he's contractually obligated to take a fight and fulfil his obligation, just as he'd expect us to fulfil our obligation.
“He is, to some extent, still a draw. An interesting fight we'd like to make, one we've talked about, would be him and Shogun. I think that would be an interesting fight. They're both coming off a loss, they have a history and they have both expressed interest in the fight in the past.”
With Jackson apparently intent on leaving the UFC after his remaining fight is discharged, the clash might be the last time fans get to see him fighting a big name opponent - or fighting at all, given that he apparently has designs on a renewed acting career and forays into rap music.
Fertitta’s comment about Jackson being “to some extent still a draw” is interesting, as it lends weight to behind-the-scenes talk of Jackson’s fury at the UFC being due to a disagreement on the value of a new contract. He is being offered less money than before, as the UFC told him he has “lost his appeal”.
An official announcement will be coming on the FX channel tonight at 10pm ET, via the program UFC Tonight.
Yeah the Shogun v Rampage fight does sound pretty good, but personally I would rather see him fight Tito. Of course that is just me. I have always been interested in seeing the stars of Pride fighting the stars of the Ufc from the same eras.
But than again if these guys can get fired up and in shape to fight we can see how the original fight may have went any differeny if they had been fresh for it.

To send off the former champion will be none other than fellow former champ, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
The two have reportedly agreed to square off at a yet to be determined event as announced just moments ago on “UFC Tonight” on FUEL TV.
Rampage and Shogun have a history. They already fought once back in 2005 at Pride Total Elimination 2005. In the first bout it was Shogun who won via TKO in the first frame of action.
Rampage, PLEASE COME PREPARED FOR THIS FIGHT!! I dont want any excuses for your performance afterwards, I believe that you can win it if you check the legkicks. This is your chance to go out with a bang!

He's not a draw anymore. Too many lame fights in a row, too many excuses, too many poor performances. There are way too many fighters that actually bring it come fight time for anyone to be hung up on Rampage.

I do believe Rampage Jackson and Tito are friends. I don't ever see a fight like that happening.
i like the shogun rematch, but i'd be lying if i didnt say a hendo rematch would have been more exciting. now it looks like dan is gonna wait it out for a shot at 205 or 185.
glad page is getting surgery before the fight tho - one less possible excuse (and i'm a HUGE rampage fan). shogun should take this, but dont get me wrong, i would LOVE for page to get the nod.
I want this fight to happen. So given this is pages last fight in the UFC now seems to be the time. Not a big fan of either guy but when he's on shogun is something to see. Here's to hoping that shogun owns page for a couple of rounds and then brutally finishes him to further devalue page as a draw. I just feel he needs a little karma for throwing the UFC under the bus after they made that whole police chase thing go away. Funny that page said that he lost respect for the UFC after the Forrest fight when really they should have lost respect for him after how he handled that loss.

Good long interview with Rampage - full of sexual harassment and political incorrectness.
You get the vibe right off the jump with how close Karen and Rampage are sitting and it soon kicks off with Page drooling over her. Funny thing is, Karen's old man is the camera man.. She eats it up though.
