Dan Henderson would take fight with Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 if offered - MMAmania.com

This thing might be getting a little out of hand.

Thanks to division number one contender Alistair Overeem failing a surprise drug test, his main event fight against Junior dos Santos for the heavyweight championship at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is likely off.

And it's led to all out insanity amongst mixed martial arts (MMA) fans. Writers, too.

The obvious choice to replace Overeem is Frank Mir, seeing as he's on a three-fight winning streak and he's held the title once before. Mir vs. Dos Santos isn't a sexy fight, by any means, but it will work in a pinch.

Certain writers on this here website have lobbied for UFC President Dana White to put his differences with Mother Russia aside and sign Fedor Emelianenko for a once in a lifetime fight, though we now know that has no chance of actually happening.

That's not what fans want, though. No, fans are dying to see a certain "Super Samoan" slide right into the void. That's right, ladies and sirs, the one and only Mark Hunt has a rally going for him on Twitter right now appealing to the powers that be within the UFC to give him the vacant spot.

A few of the more defiant fans have even suggested Dan Henderson. Hey, he's not doing anything else at the moment and if Fedor is in consideration, why not "Hendo?" After all, "Dangerous" Dan did knock him out inside of one round in Strikeforce.

Henderson even said on Twitter he would accept the match-up if it was offered.

Again, Mir is the likely choice because he's been in the main event before and he's a former world champion. He's also a true heavyweight. Plus, his management team hasn't pissed off Dana White time and again. Oh, and his record is better than 8-7.

He's probably getting the fight, Maniacs.

But who do you really want to see now that Henderson has thrown his name in the ring? Is it him? Hunt? Fedor? Someone else? Sound off in the comments section below with your wildest suggestions.

They couldn't be any crazier than what we're already seeing.

3 weeks from now Hendo will be challenging sumo champs for their belts. He wants a title shot and doesn't care which of the 10 weight classes he gets it from.

I think we need to be realistic and look at guys whom are already on the UFC roster. I dont see any big name coming in NWO style and getting an immediate title shot against JDS.

Does anyone have a reason why Mir doesn't deserve a title shot against JDS and if so what hw on the UFC roster is more deserving?

Look Hendo is fighing either Rashad or Jon Jones next.

Dan Henderson prefers bout with Jones over Evans - MMA News

“I think Jon Jones is a better fight for me,” Henderson said to Bleacher Report’s Gary Herman. “His style matches up better. Jones will stand-up with me more.”

The former Greco-Roman Olympian gave a somewhat surprising answer as to why he is not as interested in fighting Evans.

“Rashad is real well-rounded,” Henderson said about the former UFC champion. “He’ll stand and bang with me a little, but he’ll be trying to put me on my back—a lot more than Jones would.”

“Jones is real awkward and kind of poses a different threat,” Henderson said. “He’s awkward, unorthodox and a little tougher to figure out, and that’s also what intrigues me about it—he’s different.”

However, I think JDS may possess the Excalibur to Hendo's chin. Maybe. If Roy could survive, I believe Hendo could, too. MMA math scholar here, trust me.

It would be fun to watch but nothing replaces the JDS/Overeem fight right now in terms of excitement and styles. Mir is probably the one.

This would replace it in my mind.

Here is what I wish would happen. I know the UFC says no co-promoting. This is smart. Why would they ever co-promote? It is not good business, especially when the other company has just one older thing to offer. But what if the UFC made an exception and said you guys get Russia. You can do whatever you want there and only there. They really wouldn't be giving up anything, would they? It just sounds like a win, win. Make it happen Dana.

I would love to see Hendo fight JDS. He probably loses but it would be exciting.

How about Mir fight JDS and Cain fight Hendo. If Hendo wins (snowballs chance in hell) then he gets to pick if he wants hw or lw or mw title fight.
