| Joe Rogan supports 'Rally for Mark Hunt' title shot against Junior dos Santos at UFC Joe Rogan supports 'Rally for Mark Hunt' title shot against Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 - MMAmania.com Quote:
In case you've been living under a rock, Alistair Overeem failed a surprise drug test at a press conference to promote his UFC 146 main event heavyweight championship bout against reigning titleholder Junior dos Santos on May 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This has led to the mixed martial arts (MMA) community getting as whacky as "The Reem's" testosterone levels.
That includes a campaign by fans to get the powers that be at UFC to insert the one and only Mark Hunt into the vacant slot opposite "Cigano" over the Memorial Day weekend. Supporters of this movement have got a Rally for Mark Hunt hashtag on Twitter and they've taken over popular MMA forum, The Underground.
Now, a high profile name is lending his support, as well.
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan dropped a recent post on The UG explaining why he's on board with it:
"There are some wise people on this board, and I support this movement. Style wise that might be the most exciting match up. Either way, even if Hunt doesn't replace the reem I would still love to see this matchup down the road, especially considering how good Hunt looked against Kongo."
Again, it needs to be noted that Overeem may not actually be out of the running for the fight. According to Jeremy Botter, he has now filed for a license in the state of Nevada and his hearing in front of the commission is set for April 24.
To that end, UFC President Dana White has already stated a decision on the main event will not come until after said hearing.
Still, the calls for Hunt to be given a title shot have grown from a whisper to a cry to a full blown rally. In the event Overeem fails to get licensed, would that be enough to convince the folks in power to give Hunt his chance at glory? He's on a three-fight winning streak, after all, and heavyweight isn't exactly a loaded division.
Why the hell not?

I just remember what Manhoef did to Hunt, and think JDS would immitate that kind of destruction.
I'm not sure going 3 - 6 in your last 9 fights really makes you a title contender, but given the UFC's shift towards WWE style matchmaking, I guess that doesn't really matter.

Joe knows what's good.
I don't see Mark running head first in Juniors fist the way he did against Melvin & regardless of the outcome Hunt is the most exciting replacement available at the moment...give the Cinderella man a chance.

Mark Hunt is completely different fighter at this point than he was then. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

I like the cinderella man reference even though I didn't like the movie. (Zellwigger ruins it for me)

This match is interesting because Hunt CAN beat JDS. He doesn't deserve a shot, but at the same time, he's the only one who can take the risk on short notice. This is probably Hunt's only chance to get a shot at UFC gold. He should be pushing for it.
Do I think he'll hold onto it? No. I don't. The first great submission guy he runs into beats him. In fact, if JDS is smart, he'll be diving for ankles if they do fight. Hunt is an amazing kickboxer even passed his prime.

i was thinking about this and if Mir is to still fight Cain then this fight makes the most sense... and since this is MMA anything can happen and Hunt can KO JDS.. that would make him the champion.....
i find that crazy since hes not in the top 5 and just got into the top 10.. id give him a tiny chance against the other HWs that are more grapplers (ik JDS has a nice BJJ game but he hasnt showed that he grapples)
but because this is an emergency i can tolerate the shoot up the ladder.. i like this option the most compared to the others that are available and since the #1 contenders match is the same night the time frame works well

I was just drawing a comparison between 2 guys with fast hands and 1 shot knockout power. Not saying Hunt doesn't have fast hands and knockout power himself...
How has Hunt's game evolved, at all, since 2008?

Hunt beat CroCop in MMA,CroCop beat Hunt in K1,therefore even if MMA math did work (which it does not, let's be clear on that) your equation is flawed.
Hunts TDD has gotten much better since he started working with ATT & he seems calmer & more patient, confident in his ability to beat anyone,he's not self deprecating like Forrest Griffin but is quietly understated & wholly assured that he will be a world champ...again.
