| Over weight and out of shape
Was it just me or did Herring and Salmon both seem to be out of shape and gassing early in their fights? I thought Salmon looked great but at the end of the first round his mouth was open and you could see his tank was almost on empty just before he took the "Soon to be UFC highlight kick".
Herring did not look like the same fighter that I have seen in his Pride fights. Granted he took little punishment in his loss, but hit defense against takedowns looked terrible and he seemed to refuse to change his game plan.
Both of these fighters had great opportunities...you would think that they would come in ready for a war.

I think the mentallity is too much about fighting rather then the preparation not saying they dont train hard, they train hard as fuck but too many dont get there bodies in physical shape and theres always the "Cant cut" myth.. theres just alot of MMA fighters that dont condition good and fight at weights they dont belong at cuz they just wanna fight.

I feel that the level of fighting is getting so tight that conditioning can make the difference of a win or loss. If a fighter has lesser skill...press the action and tire your opponent so that opportunities can present themselves. Salmon pressed the action but tired...IMO he could have won if he had been in better shape and kept the action going at the pace he was pushing in round one. He got tired and Evans took advantage of the slow reaction to what he thought was going to be kick to the ribs....lights out!

I talked about this in another.I don't think Salmon gassed. He didn't really look tired. His punches still had snap on them ,maybe the guy just breathes out of his mouth ,like Dan Henderson does ,b/c he didn't really look that tired ,besides from the breathing from the mouth. He impressed me a lot and I hope they bring him back.

Heath didn't seem to bad to me, he just couldn't do anything.
Salmon was just fat, no way did he run even 3 miles a day getting into shape.
All these guys need a lesson from Randy.

Well both fighters did come in out of shape, Salmon was fat and Herring was just not tight like he always has been in the past, he still weighed 250lbs but you could tell his muscle-tone was just not there and neither was his conditioning so it seemed.
He was amped though for the fight and wanted the KO but O'Brien wanted no part of it, he would not engage the action and kept avoiding Herring.
IMO Herring should've just done the Tim Sylvia and said fuggit, I'll just wait for him to engage, then once the crowd started booing and McCarthy yelled at them, then maybe O'Brien would've engaged adn Herring could've used his striking more effectively. He was able to drop O'Brien with a left and drop him again in the 3rd with a right, he wanted to win the fight with a passion, O'Brien was content with the lnp and should've subbed Herring at least 5 times.
Herring is training with the Las Vegas Combat Club, which happens to be Frank Mir's camp as well. Herring is by far the best fighter in the camp and it is chalked full of underskilled fighters so it is a bad place for Herring as he is the teacher so is unable to gain anything from anyone within his training camp.
HE needs to switch camps, American Top Team, Militich, Jackson's Submission Fighting, etc or even go back to training in Holland as that was when he was at his very best, I just see nothing for him at Las Vegas Combat Club except non motivated fighters and poor training.

Herring tore his MCL while training. So it explains his weird stance, his sluggish sprawl and his lack of conditioning.

salmon looks more like he should at most be 185. he's only 5'10" and has a body like josh haynes did at 205. if he cut weight and got his conditioning better i can only imagine how amazing the crane kick would be.
