Default This is why people like BJ Penn so much..

Not only is he a great, always exciting fighter who wants the toughest opponents all the time. He also gives back...

Great stuff, glad to see that Penn is so generous....and humble. (People often cite him not being humble enough, which leades to lack of conditioning which is why he gasses, etc. etc....but I always thought he was an honest, humble man.)

My friend is a senior leader in the special forces unit here at Fort Campbell. Sean Sherk did the same thing........so is he on the same level as Penn because of this?

It is cool though.

Later.

Well ok...that's part of the problem here...

The poster said "this is why people love BJ Penn so much"....that's disingenuous.

This article is nice, and it's nice what Penn is doing; but your average MMA fan wasn't even aware of that; they "love" BJ Penn because of his fighting, and because of his ridiculous talent they bend over backwards to make excuses for him.

Don't kid yourselves....the nuthuggers don't "love BJ Penn" because of the events chronicled in this article...they "love" him because they are dazzled by his skill and choose to ignore that MMA is a discipline, which requires a number of other attributes beyond sheer innate ability.

You know Hughes and Franklin actually went over to Iraq, and as someone else stated Sherk has done the same thing. Most people in here aren't fans of the WWE. Every year they go to Iraq at Christmas time but that's still not going to make people who don't like wrestling fans.

you have a lot of room to call anyone a nuthugger with a name like "diegonightmare"

at least BJ has earned peoples respect and admiration because of his talent and his performances.

I would like to see how diego would do against Gomi,Hughes,GSP,Lyoto,Renzo etc. but hey he did beat Riggs and robbed karo and diaz
