| Gray Maynard Opens as 3 to 1 Favorite Over Clay Guida at UFC on FX 4 Gray Maynard Opens as 3 to 1 Favorite Over Clay Guida | MMAWeekly.com Quote:
Gray Maynard will look to start his path back to another shot at the UFC lightweight title in June where he faces Clay Guida at UFC on FX 4 in Atlantic City.
Coming into the fight, oddsmakers have instilled Maynard as a heavy favorite over Guida ahead of their June showdown.
According to Nick Kalikas from BetonFighting.com, Maynard comes in as a 3 to 1 favorite over Guida. Maynard currently sits as a -305 favorite while the comeback on Guida as the underdog is +235.
Both Maynard and Guida are coming off losses, albeit against the top two fighters in the division.
Maynard lost by TKO to then UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 136 last October, while Guida was defeated by current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson late last year as well.
Both Maynard and Guida come from wrestling backgrounds, so it will be interesting to see where these two fighters end up once the fight starts on June 22.
Also interesting to note, the Maynard vs. Guida fight will be a five round main event, so cardio can always be an interesting factor in a fight like this. Guida of course is known for his intense pace and cardio, but Maynard has gone 5 rounds more recently.

I think this will be a good fight, my heart goes out to both guys. Maynard should win this and get back into title contention. Buuut, I would be amused to see crazy ass Guida take this ... This is Guida's make or break fight...

The combination of Gray's new camp, first loss AND a very long layoff are enough for me to take some of this action on Clay.
I'm very interested to see what mindframe Gray will have coming into this fight as there's alot riding on it for him considering all the stuff that has come out after the Frankie loss.....
I think Gray probably takes this, but I'd definately put some cash down on Clay.

I think Gray puts on a wrestling clinic and wins a VERY onesided UD 50-45
I hate saying that, cause I dont like Grey, but I think that is what will happen

I think Grey gets a stoppage in the 3rd. Outside of crazy cardio, Grey is better at everything than Clay.

Clay usually wins if he can take advantage of his opponents lack of wrestling. Unfortunately for him wrestling is Maynard's strength.
Guida is going to struggle to get the takedown and won't have much to offer Gray on the feet.
All that being said, Gray isn't known as a finisher and Clay has heart for days. Meaning, chances are this fight will see a fourth and fifth round. If Guida can turn this into a wild fight he might be able to pull off something crazy in the last rounds.
In the end I see this going down a little like Hendo vs Shogun or Ellenberger vs Sanchez in that Guida will make a comeback at the end but it won't be enough to make up for being dominated early.

And I'm sure both guys will take laps around the cage after their 15 minutes are up. Grey has the edge, but I can never count out Clay.
