Liddell says teammates should fight, drink beers afterward UFC Quick Quote: Chuck Liddell says teammates should fight, drink beers afterward - MMAmania.com Quote: |
"If (a teammate) can beat me, they can beat me. It is what it is. They deserve to fight me then. I'm not going to hold back some guy that's in my camp if he wants to fight me. That's not my thing. It's just a personal choice and a personal opinion, but I think eventually, hey you guys are going at it, then go out and have two beers together afterwards. Go out there and prove who's best that day, and go out and be friends again."

I agree with this mind set at a professional level.

Happens all the time.
Someone I know slept with my freinds wife. The dude took his beating and afterwards, they had beers before the guy with cheating wife went home and run her off.
Guys are like best freinds now. Still kind of blows my mind.
So, what reason is there for team mates to fight and not let it go afterwards. I mean other than one or more of them being complete asshats.

I would personally like to see this theory tested if Chael beats Silva Im wondering if Dan Henderson will pursue the mw title.
I bet he doesn't just like you will never see Nick Diaz fight Jake Shields.

Well... Chuck is a fucking man, what do you expect?
Two men should be able to put aside the "brotherly love" for a moment and put their skills against each other. Afterwards, share some booze and have a good time with some beautiful women. Like Chuck said, if one man can beat the other on that given night, it is what is is. It doesn't mean that the winner is forever the better fighter, let alone the better man.
I think some guys are too caught up in the "brother" thing. They don't want to break each other's hearts or something. I can understand guys who don't want to damage one another's careers but this is the fight business. With the way the business is going right now, it's unlikely that one fight will break you. Rising back up after being knocked down is what true warriors are made of.
I can only imagine what it is like for guys who spend countless hours in the gym together pouring sweat, blood and tears into this dream they are chasing. I can understand where it would cause extreme difficulty to battle a guy who's always helping you sharpen your skills and who is basically one of your best buddies. Then again, you have men like Chuck. Guys like him don't give a shit because it's not Gladiator. Guys like him will go out there and just fight because they love to and whether he's doing the ass kicking or getting his ass kicked, it's not personal. Life goes on. It's too bad there aren't many guys like him in the sport right now.
Damn, I miss Chuck.
