I dont think that is the way it works. Champions clause allows a company to match the bid and keep a fighter under contract... I do believe.

This is a big fish/small pond scenario here.

I hold Lombard as a Jorge Santiago-level MW caliber signing, which while a big 'GET' on the free agent market, I'm not so sure how much of an impact he will make on the 185 division unless they feed him some guys from the bottom of the division(which they didn't do with Santiago). Moreover, I'd hazard to say that Jorge had the far better recent wins and tougher record prior to resigning with ZUFFA, while I think Lombard has a fairly padded, if wholy underimpressive record, that sounds great when you hear it (Undefeated since 2006, 31 and 2 with 25 finishes and never been finished....) but I'll hold my breath before I say Hector tears through the MW division.

Two or three years ago I'd of been pretty hyped about this but now I could care less.

really? they cant make him sign a new contract for bellator if he dont want to

if that is how it works he probly turn down both of the offers and fight outside US for a while? i think he will have a choice surely, thats BS if bellator match it and he cant choose which one to sign

bellator actin all like they dont tie down fighters with champions needing to defend there title but the dude wants to leave they wont let him

i think they will let him leave and not offer a new contract if he wants to leave

hope so

They don't have champions clauses keeping them with Bellator, only clauses that allows Bellator to match other offers first.

This is from the thread about Eddie and Hector being free agents, 2nd paragraph:
http://www.mmanews.com/forums/genera...-bellator.html

Quote:
“It’s coming up on four years and that’s the length of the deal when you win world titles and the extensions are done. We don’t have any champion’s clauses in our contracts, which locks guys in for life, so those contracts are going to come to an end. You’re going to have a brief exclusive negotiation period, and when that ends you’re going to have the right to match an offer that anybody else would make, and we’ve got the right to match.”

I think Lombard doesn't have very good footwork and he tends to throw one punch at a time, but he has heavy hips, he's very fast, and has ridiculous power. He can definitely beat a lot of guys, but I don't think he could beat Silva or Sonnen. Not sure about the rest of the division, I think Okami, Bisping, and Belfort should be able to pick him apart but never really know.

Default Source: Hector Lombard definitely joining UFC

Source: Hector Lombard definitely joining UFC - Fighters Only
Quote:
Hector Lombard is “almost definitely” on his way to the UFC.

Lombard is the middleweight champion of Bellator FC. His contract recently expired but he is still locked into a ‘match period’ clause, which gives Bellator the option to match any offer made to him by other promotions.

Last weekend Bellator was issued, via Lombard’s representatives, with a copy of the offer that the UFC has made. A source close to the situation says that the package offered by the UFC is “unviable” for Bellator to match.
