rory seems so young and naive, not to say everyone that says they wont fight their team mates is, but rory seems like he is just repeating what george and the coaches tell him.

hes a real talent. i dont think hes ready for the shot yet and george isnt really the champion so there isnt much to discuss now, but when the time comes and hes ready he should take the fight. like dana said, there is no reason to not be friends after. its a sporting competition not a fight to the death or anything.

Not everyone can fight a friend with everything they have, some people need to have no personal connections or genuinely dislike their opponent in order to fight them. Dana's a fight promoter, so he's always going to push guys to fight, but GSP is a martial artist and has some of the best self discipline in the game. If he doesn't want to fight a team mate, there is a good chance that it won't happen. If Rory continues to improve and GSP does not leave the division, then they will have to sit down and talk about it. right now I don't see Rory anywhere near that problem. Alot can happen between now and that time....

It must be frustrating to have a roster of such talent, then see them limit their sights on their goals and dreams, just because a teammate stand in the way. It may not be an ideal scenario to find yourself in, but you wanna be a champion and the best in the world right?

To see a talent like MacDonald blaze through a solid opponent like Mills, then say he won't attempt realising his dream of being a champ, because GSP has the belt? It's crazy! If GSP moved up and MacDonald won the belt off someone else, people would always say "he only got that belt by NOT facing GSP". You don't want your MMA legacy to be remembered for that fact.

Rashad and Jones used to love each other saying they'd never fight each other and it happened so I suppose it's possible.

I am a massive Rory Mac fan, and I think he is a legit contender. But the reality is, he is only 22 years old, and while looking like an absolute animal in all of his fights so far, he hasn't fought and legit top guys other than Condit.

Rory hasn't fought Kos, Fitch, Ellenberger, Alves, Kampmann, Hendricks, Kim, Sanchez, Story etc etc

IMO he can beat most or all of those guys, but until he gets the opportunity to beat some of those guys, this talk of him fighting GSP is just pointless and unnecessary drama

This is MMA's way of becoming shitty like boxing. Just like boxers make excuses not to fight top talent, mma fighters have this "but we are fwiends" bullshit.

I disagree entirely, there are legitimate reasons for not wanting to fight each other. Say what you want, but if you were training with a guy and you knew you might have to fight him one day, you would hold back and not show him everything, just in case. Any sport or game I have ever played, if you coach/train with someone you're teaching them how to beat you.

Besides all of that, Rory isn't ready for a title shot, he beat Che Mills, there's plenty of other people to fight. By the time he's ready for a shot GSP could have already retired, or moved up to middleweight.

Young and naive as in he should say he'll fight gsp and have gsp not train with and mentor him anymore? Fuck that lol. If i was him, i would say i wouldn't fight him either and learn as much as i could from gsp, and then challenge for the title when gsp is gone and i became a much much better fighter under him.
