| Edgar: "Move to Featherweight is inevitable." Quote:
Many have predicted this move for some time now, but former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is finally addressing and embracing the idea of a drop to featherweight.
The former champion will once again attempt to capture 155 pound gold, when he rematches Benson Henderson sometime in the months to come (no official date has been pinned down for Edgar/Henderson 2, as of yet), but he’s also quick to acknowledge the fact that a shift in weight classes is all but inevitable. "We’ll see what the future holds, but I think it’s inevitable that I’ll eventually get down there. I just don’t know when." declared Edgar at a recent press conference.
He also spearheaded the rumors of a potential clash with reigning 145 pound champion Jose Aldo, noting that he was offered an immediate fight with the Brazilian should he make the transition to featherweight.
"I’m all about fighting big fights, and fighting the best guys, and Jose Aldo’s one of them," stated Edgar. "We’ll see where it’s at, whether it’s at 145 or 155."

Can you imagine what a beast he would be at that weight? I would pick him to beat Aldo, but that would be a fucking ridiculously good fight.

He's so much quicker than the bulk of LW's that he makes them look slow, but you've got guys like Aldo who are every bit as fast.
Can't count him out of anything, he's got heart that goes for miles, but I think it will be very different watching his transition.
I actually hope Henderson beats him again, as I think the lighter weight makes for better fights for Frankie.

I really think Featherweight is on the verge from going from hands down the weakess wieghtclass to hands down the strongest in another year.
Edgar is going to move down after he loses to Bendo in the rematch.
Cruz is going to move up after he beats Faber.
So we will have a weightclass that will have three great champions all in their prime and all having amazing fights. This is the weightclass to watch in 2013.

Good points, his speed is definitely a huge asset at LW; his ability to get in and out of the pocket quickly was based on having that speed advantage.
At present, yes his speed would be less advantageous at FW, but could he actually become faster by dropping the extra 10lbs?
Being as well rounded as he is, and as high level as he is with his boxing, wrestling and takedown defense, I think he would give almost every FW huge problems.
I'm not saying Frankie wouldn't beat Aldo, but if for whatever reason, Aldo had to move up to LW, Edgar would have FW on lockdown for a long time; pending Cruz moving up.

All that matters is that he fights Aldo, he better not move down right after Aldo moves up. Frankie clearly beats anyone at FW besides Jose.

Good points Masscore about featherweight. It has me looking more forward to that weight class if this all happens. I think Frankie would be awesome at FW but he's going to lose his speed advantage as others have said. I want to see him and Aldo fight, but I think Aldo would win.
