| Rumor: Jose Aldo to Defend Featherweight Title Against Erik Koch Quote: Quote:
Jose Aldo‘s next opponent is close to being finalized, and from what we hear, it won’t be Hatsu Hioki or Frankie Edgar. A source close to Roufusport MMA Academy has informed CagePotato.com that 145-pound contender Erik Koch has been sent a contract to challenge Aldo for the UFC featherweight title. The fight would likely take place at UFC 147 in Brazil.
Until we can confirm this report with one of the fighters themselves, treat it as a rumor for now. We’ve contacted Koch’s manager, Mike Roberts of MMA Inc., but have yet to receive a response. Stay tuned.
Koch (13-1) is 2-0 in the UFC, including his Knockout of the Night win against Raphael Assuncao and a unanimous decision over TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins last September. He was scheduled to return against Dustin Poirier at UFC 143 in February, but had to withdraw due to injury.

I know it's Cagepotato, and probably BS. But it's the first I've heard of any possible opponents for Aldo.

IMO he was lucky to win his last fight. I would love to see Dustin Poirier fight Aldo.

I think my main reason for not liking this, is that he was due to fight Poirier
He has to pull out due to injury, Poirier wins against the replacement, and now has to go on to fight Zombie, and if this were true, Koch would get to leapfrog over Poirier without even having to fight him

This is absolutely wonky if it's true, which I'll hold my breath until I hear it from more sources.
Hioki is ABSOLUTELY at the front of the line after Nunes dropped the decision to Siver for the title shot. I'd even put Alacantara or Poirier(if he beats Zombie) ahead of Koch, who IMO still has alot of work to get to "title contender status", simply because I think all three names mentioned above have more tools to compete vs. Aldo. Frig, Grispi was a shot away from a title shot before Poirier took him out, I really don't understand this one and again, will hold my breath till further confirmation.

I'll say false too, but Hatsu Hioki said right after UFC Japan that he wanted another fight before he challenged for the title. I'm sure that might change if Dana White flat out offered it to him. I'd say UFC waits a couple weeks to find out what goes down with Porier / Zombie.
