| Chuck Liddell Might Think About Returning 'For A Shot At The Title' Chuck Liddell Might Think About Returning 'For A Shot At The Title' Quote:
UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell did an interview for the Fuel TV show UFC Tonight that aired last night, and he discussed a few different things including fatherhood, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and why he retired. One of the most interesting quotes was in reference to what it would take for him to come out of retirement - a title shot (transcribed by MMA Mania): Quote: |
"The only thing that would even make me think about it is if they gave me a shot at the title. So, we'll see. For now? Yeah. Jon Jones. I don't wanna come back as a sideshow. It's just one of those things. It's not something I wanna do."
| He then went on to talk about the current king of the hill at 205, Jon Jones, who is coming off a win over Rashad Evans at UFC 145: Quote: |
"I'll never say never. Not in this sport. Anybody can lose at any time. If he keeps doing what he does, he's gonna be hard to beat if he keeps doing what he's doing. He follows his game plan. He trains hard. He keeps learning. He's young and he's athletic and a great athlete. He's a great guy. He's gonna be hard to beat, but I'm never gonna say no one's gonna beat him."
| You can catch a quote about retirement from the Iceman after the jump, as well as the full video of his interview. Quote: |
"You know, it was a hard decision to make, to retire, but it wasn't like I couldn't compete with guys. I can't quite take a punch like I used to and I didn't wanna change my style. I could start wrestling and try to control guys, but then I still got the chance of getting hit hard. It just wasn't the way I wanted to fight. I fought so many years, and I wanted to go out fighting the way I like to fight: exciting and fun."

Anyone would come out of retirement if they receive a shot at the UFC title.
I don't think Chuck would beat any Top 10 fighter though.

Could really see it in Chuck's last fight with Franklin. He was dominating when he was staying dynamic, moving around, throwing kicks and going for takedowns. But he kept on reverting to that hands down brawling style and paid for it.
I honestly don't think anyone can really be competitive with that style anymore. The average striking skill has gotten so much better, I bet anyone in the top 10 in the UFC now would out box Chuck.

This is all hypothetical. I would never want to see Chuck return, even being a huge fan.
The LHW division is too stacked for someone like Chuck or Randy to come out of retirement and get a shot. This isn't th HW division of old.

im sorry u guys need to show the iceman some more love, if randy can come out of retirement to a title fight so can chuck, so what if he gets knocked, besides a possible matchup with hendo or jones would be epic, dont act like it wouldnt be fun, chuck has skills he simply cant take a punch, u guys are acting like he doesnt even have comparable fighting skills to match a top 10 fighter, he was in excellent shape in his final fight, shot some stem cells into his spinal cord and send him in there with rampage maybe he'll avenge himself

Yeah chuck could actually beat top ten fighters, but since his chin is weak they would be more aggressive and try to land early. If he stuck to counter punching, he might be able to win some fights. He loses a lot when he's rushing forward into punches. If he's patient and still has this timing (That's very important), then guys going after his chin will expose their own....and they say power is the last thing to go....so...yeah...but that's easier said then done, Chuck should probably stay retired if he doesn't want to evolve....

I get the feeling more people read the title and not the article itself.

I watched the interview and the question alone threw him off. He knows there is no way he'd get a title shot, he was just saying "if" there was a scenario where he would come back it would be for one. And this article does a bad job of paraphrasing the interview to make it seem like something its not. When he said title shot, the interviewer asked "Jon Jones?" chuck was like "sure."
