Couture on fighters using TR: "Some are going too far"

Randy Couture thinks that some fighters are pushing it with Testosterone Replacement Therapy:

“There is such fine line with all of the anti-aging stuff that’s out there now. TRT is generally something a guy does in their 40’s and 50’s when their natural production of testosterone drops off,” he tells MMA Frenzy.

“There are other natural ways to boost your own body’s production without replacing it and it’s safer as well, but it still should be under the care of a physician.

“It’s a very fine and a very personal thing and there is no easy answer. An athlete is using his body to earn a living and entertain the fans, they want to get the most out of themselves, but sometimes they go too far with it.”

Couture’s comments come in the same week that would-be title challenger Alistair Overeem was denied a license to fight Junior Dos Santos in Las Vegas next month.

Mark Muñoz speaks out about PEDs “I says they have no place in MMA”

UFC Middleweight Mark Muñoz spoke about performance enhancing drugs today during a podcast interview. With the increasing drama revolving around UFC fighters and PEDs, most recently Alistair Overeem, it’s no surprise that more and more fighters are discussing PEDs in interviews.

“The thing about PEDs, everyone wants to get an edge on the competition, but I feel with PEDs you’re actually cutting your life shorter. I think when you take such drugs it’s damaging your body in a way, because anything synthetically enhanced, it’s going to do something bad to your body in the long term. For me, I’m a father and a husband, so I want to be here later on. So if I’m taking something synthetic, it’s just going to disrupt the natural process of the body and then shut down your kidneys or give you diverticulitis in your 30s or give you heart disease. If they did research on PEDs, (they’d find) it really does shorten your life. So if I’m taking PEDs, I’m shortening my life, and therefore I’m not looking towards my first priority, which is my family. PEDs is cheating. Stop cheating — there’s no substitute for hard work. If you don’t want to work hard, do something else! Stop cheating!”

In Alistair's defense, it's likely that he legitimately needs TRT... Years of steroids probably left his nuts lookin' more like sunflower seeds; and not producing any natural T.

Definately, but I do feel that Brock never cheated in the UFC. He is right though, using roids will fuck you up in the long term.

A couple of cycles, and proper post-cycle therapy, USUALLY will not effect your system long term. But long-term regular use will inevitably mess you up in the end.

I'm not saying that everybody in the UFC who is on TRT has, in the past (or present), regularly used steroids, but low testosterone levels in athletes under the age of 40 CAN be a sign.

Problem with man made drugs is they have a positive effect, but usally carry many more side effects. It may take many years to show up and may only aid in causing other health issues. I'm probely older than most of you here as Coulture was born after me. So I'm seeing the effects of abuse I did to my body not from drugs but all of the pounding it recieved is roaring it's ugly face. Also from being a physical fitness instructor in the military seen many soldiers have sever issues from pushing their body to hard from high school days in their early 30's. So the expression you can pay me now or pay me more later truly fits.
