How was he the champion in the UFC?

He fought 3 times in the UFC & lost 2.

Loss to Belfort.
Loss to Tito.
Win over Tony Peterra.

Are you saying that the Peterra fight was for the UFC title?!?!?!?

Actually there are a lot of people who claim to be world champions in the UFC. Ian Freeman has claimed to be an ex-UFC champion, although to my knowledge he's never won the title. So maybe it's cos Silva won a fight in the UFC he's regarded as a champion.

I don't know, but it's BS. Wanderlie Silva has never been a world title holder in the UFC. Period.

Just found the artical that is being mentioned, however it does not say Silva was the champion, it just says Ortiz won the title in a fight against Silva, like I said at the time of the fight the was no champion.

It doesn't matter what some article that made a factual error says. The truth is that Silva never beat anyone for th title. Whatever article you read is incorrect.

I didn't follow the sport around that time, but I don't see how Wandy was ever UFC champ in any division either. He fought for the vacant title against Tito since Frank retired as I recall. I don't know how that makes him champ.
