Actually there are a lot of people who claim to be world champions in the UFC. Ian Freeman has claimed to be an ex-UFC champion, although to my knowledge he's never won the title. So maybe it's cos Silva won a fight in the UFC he's regarded as a champion.

I don't know, but it's BS. Wanderlie Silva has never been a world title holder in the UFC. Period.

Just found the artical that is being mentioned, however it does not say Silva was the champion, it just says Ortiz won the title in a fight against Silva, like I said at the time of the fight the was no champion.

Yeah it just says that Ortiz beat Silva for the title. Which was vacant at the time as someone said on the other thread and this thread. I like your determination prideFan, but you are wrong this time buddy.

I didn't follow the sport around that time, but I don't see how Wandy was ever UFC champ in any division either. He fought for the vacant title against Tito since Frank retired as I recall. I don't know how that makes him champ.

yeah Silva was never a champ in the UFC and he never really accomplished anything in the UFC for that matter.
