| Rampage Promises UFC Departure “UFC’s just throwing me all these boring fighters" Rampage Still Promises UFC Departure | “UFC’s just throwing me all these boring fighters” | MMA News Quote:
“After I leave the UFC, I’m done with them! Just like when I left PRIDE. You remember when I left PRIDE? It’s over. I was very loyal to PRIDE. I fought for PRIDE, and I fought the way I fought to put butts in seats. I took risks, slammed people and stuff like that. PRIDE did a good job. They built me up. I wasn’t that good when I first came out. I fought Sakuraba and they built me up and then threw me in some tough fights. That’s the way you’re supposed to do it. Now, the UFC, I was a better fighter when I came there. My second fight, they throw me to Chuck Liddell. The fans didn’t know who I was. I knocked him out, the fans booed me. That changed me, who I am towards the fans. I used to be the nicest guy towards fans. My first time getting booed. How are you going to boo somebody for knocking somebody out? But I got a whole other opinion on that. And now, the UFC’s just throwing me all these boring fighters, these game planners, these wrestlers. I’m the type of fighter who you should match up with people who want to fight excitingly. You know what I’m saying? because I’m going to be the type of fighter who puts butts in seats.”
Rampage comments while on Inside MMA.
Rampage currently has one fight left on his UFC contract and after he’s done with that he claims his time In the company is over.
Rampage was supposed to fight Shogun Rua however due to a knee injury Jackson had to get treated that match up never came to be.

It feels like for this particular matchup, ZUFFA could really help build up another rising star and future contender/title challenger by more or less feeding Rampage to them, assuming that Rampage shows up as disinterested and uninvested as he presently seems to be about the UFC and MMA in general.
Now, while Rampage has lost a good chunk of his drawing cache over some of his less than stellar performances and overall antics, he's still a rather big name to get a win over. I think Phil Davis, Goose or even Mousasi(since the SF LHW division is him, Kyle & Feijao) would be clever ways to not only have Rampage kick rocks, but possibly give a fresher name a highlight reel win.

Just make Rampage vs Goose and get it over with. Goose gets past Rampage then that puts him right in the mix.
It's either Goose vs Evans or Goose vs Rampage at this point.

It's either Goose vs Evans or Goose vs Rampage at this point. | I really hope they build Goose into a contender a little more tenatively than against such a gamer as Rashad. I'd like to see Goose get another big win over the likes of say Lil Nog, for him to garner more confidence and experience at a higher technical level. That's another reason I'd like Goose/Rampage, because while Goose is ALOT bigger than Rashad, he's a dangerous fighter for anybody to take, especially coming off his first lost since UFC 98. Given how few top tier LHWs there are waiting for a fight right now, it's a pretty thin field.

Given how few top tier LHWs there are waiting for a fight right now, it's a pretty thin field. | I only say Rashad at this point because the UFC can either do 2 things, build up Goose or put him in the mix. Lil Nog is so far removed from the title picture it's pointless for Goose to fight him. The only reason the UFC could make Goose vs Page is to get Goose over with the casual fans. Rampage wants a stand up fight then book that. Otherwise they could book Page vs Lil Nog and Evans vs Goose. The top of the LHW is thin right now thanks to Jones blasting everyone.
The UFC needs to bring in some new fighters at 205. Gilbert Yvel, Joey Beltran, King Mo, Mousasi, Babalu just to shake some things up with the match making.
Everyone shits on Bader vs Machida but there HAS to be some new blood at the top of the LHW division. There can't be the same 4 guys fighting each other.

I see his point. Whether or not I agree with it (the fight fan in me kind of does) is beside the point. Ive watched page for years and it sucks to see him do bitter and half assing it

There can't be the same 4 guys fighting each other. | No need to worry about new blood at the top of the division, Glover Teixiera will make his statement as a force at LHW by month's end with major authority over Kingsbury....
There's also the impending UFC debut of the highly skilled Ryan Jimmo and Vinny Magalhaes is due to return when his signing period BS with M1 is over. Given that Vinny's grown leaps and bounds since his first UFC run via TUF, his amazing BJJ and developing overall game will be a great addition.
It's my standing that since Hendo(the SF LHW champion) is fighting Jones in the UFC, combined with the relative lack of fresh names in the UFC's LHW division, that it may be worthwhile for UFC to bring over the other SF LHWs since there's basically 3 of them(Mousasi, Feijo & Kyle) along with King Mo to immediately beef up the UFC's depth at 205, given the impending departures of Tito and maybe even Forrest.
I'd like to see SF(whose HW division has already been raided) to rid themselves of the LHW division because their roster is just so anemic. I'd like SF to be used to highlight the lighter weightclasses(such as WEC was) and utilize it as a feeder system, something of a proving ground for future UFC caliber talents, since many of the SF divisions are so painfully thin. More or less, I'd like to see SF become a UFC Challengers type for the bigger weight classes and be used to check out the best prospects before the BIG show.

While I love exciting fights with big knockouts, this is a sport and boring ass wrestlers are going to do what they do, if you have the skill to stop them and hurt them then it doesn't matter what they try to do. I'm a fan, so I feel I have the right to whine about boring wrestlers, but a fighter needs grab his balls and find a way to win despite his opponent's style. I've lost a lot of respect for Rampage, he's a great personality, but this exit from MMA is just sad to watch.
The sport has passed rampage by, just as it's passed Tank Abott by....I hope he goes into movies and stays retired, we don't need another Ken Shamrock or even worse....Kevin Randleman.....
